1960 Double Cab Death - PLEASE HELP !!

Post by CALTRIGGER »

Good day to all,

As some may remember I purchased a somewhat tired 1960 Crew Cab 2 years back. I am based in East London and the vehicle is in Cape Town (Paarl area). Due to many reasons I have had no opportunity to get the DC sent to EL or to get it off the previous owners property for that matter. He is now turning rather sour about it sitting and rusting away understandibly.

My biggest concern is the current state of the DC and I am wondering if it is better off scrapping it for spares.

I wonder if anyone in the CT area with a good knowledge would be able to help me with some advise???

I can email pics of it and discuss this further. I have a 1960 Ragtop that I have stored for a restore at a later stage so this is my dream to also have the DC of the same year restored one day. Problem is it's wasting away right now and I need to make a choice to scrap it or sell it or get it rust proof.

Any leads or advise appreciated!!!

Callum

PS: where else should I post this - need everyones help

DCs are hard to find. Please don't scrap it

Rather store it somewhere until you have the time and funds to fix it properly :drunks:

I know that DC well. While it needs a LOT of work, it's a good project candidate.

I'd say sell it to someone who will restore it, or find covered parking for it. The Cape weather is not kind to cars left in the open.

DCs are not easy to find and are in high demand; it would be a shame to scrap it.

I don't want to sell it... I WILL RETORE IT but not now, I need to get some help from guys in CT who can assist me in moving it and get it sprayed with rust proofing. I also have a guy who is willing to store it for me untill I can drive down and fetch it myself... It is in a very bad way

Take a trip out there,go to a local hardware store and get a few brushes,a bit of sand paper, some clothes and TROWEL GRADE bitumen mastic, the kind diy guys use towater proof thier houses, sand down the bus a little to remove whatever shite is on the surface, wipe it down, and smear on a thick layer of the mastic all over the bus,it will take about 2 hours to dry, then go over it a second time,or even a third if you can.that will buy you about 5 years.

Hey, don't have a trailer or big car, but if you come down I can borrow my dad's car to help and move the bus in Cape Town area? There's loads of trailer places around, going rate is approx R200 for the day.
