Any recomendations would be more than welcome.
Do we have EMPI or similar coolers available in SA?
I'm trying to resolve this problem:http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewto ... sc&start=0

The first thing that I will tell you, and I talk of COSTLY experience, is to make SURE that all the oil lines to the oil cooler is properly TIGHTENED!!! My oil hose came off, and there was no indication of oil pressure loss, until the engine ran dry. Needless to say that I suffered a seazed #1 bearing.... Why, you ask??? Well, the F'ing oil pressure sender(Type 3 Fastback motor fitted with adapter plate) was between the exit on the adapter and the oil filter. So the oil filter provided enough back pressure for the oil pressure sender to read 'correctly'...... Bollocks!!
So, what ever you do, make 100% sure

Hi the Opel 2 liters had a nice cooler thermostat setup you could look into. The early GTi Golf had what was essentially a beetle cooler with an adaptor. The Citroen 1220 club had a beatiful cooler for the automatic models I think bike coolers are too small you would need at least 1 liter of oil in the cooler in my opinion

In my opinion if you are running a stock dog house oil cooling and the system is in 100% working condition you should have no need for additional oil cooling, if you are not running a doghouse cooler than that is the mod you should be looking at doing, I would then rather run a external oil filter.
Gauges in a any ride just drive you up the wall, you need to make sure that the sender are fitted in a position where they do the job as required, a oil temp. sender should not be on a T-piece with the oil sender (idiot light), it should be placed in the oil flow before it enters the oil cooler.
If you a running a 1100 they have the bad wrap of low oil pressures due to the case wearing out at the cam lobes, you may have a early 1200 which was even more problematic than the 1100, is it rebuilt?, give us more background.
IF you have to get an oil cooler then all rotaries have them have used one from a RX2 no built in thermostat and have now got my grubby paws on a RX8 one with a built in thermostat.
