I really don't know... I'm all for justice and fairness but I don't fancy mud-slinging on here. Although we need to protect each other from fraud.... I would say bring it out in the open ONLY as a LAST RESORT.

Send them a PM and email/sms and give then 48 hours to make good or refund. If nothing then name and shame, it has been way too long as it is.

We all need to root out skels on here, else other people on here will get burned too.

In Forumtopia Hloni would have named the perpetrator. The perp would have then hopefully responded with a resolution or his version of the story. Everyone would state the facts and avoid getting personal. Other members who have dealt with the perp could also chime in with their experience good or bad. This is the simplest way of addressing the problem. On humungous forums you are able to give a guy a trader rating. I don't think that Eben feels like setting up something like that. I believe it would be a lot of work.

How about a simple initial checklist before naming/shaming...

Before posting a dispute Hloni would have to be sure that:
He has made every effort to solve the problem between himself and the perp. List attempts made.
Has enrolled the help of another member to try to convince the perp that he needs to pay up or deliver whatever the case may be. List attempts made, get your fellow forum member to post his attempts to help.

Hloni wrote:I know we have this thread http://www.aircooledvwsa.co.za/viewtopi ... =3&t=14921 which really deals with ‘suppliers’, who most of them are non-forum members here at acvwsa.
Now, I have a scenario. A month ago I bought some items off an ACTIVE member of this forum. He contributes daily and swaps parts with others here. Pillar to post I have been shunted to and fro, asking for the items I paid for in good faith that they would arrive in my box via registered mail. To date, nothing. Excuse after excuse I am given, and I just am not sure what to do next. Inbox and private emails seem not to yield any results (I do have to say, I get a 90% response rate - even if it be an excuse).

:zhelp: acvwsa family, how does one deal with this domestic matter? Last thing I wanna do is not to trade and swop with my own family members. :zhelp:
I'll step up here, simply because I have nothing to hide. I wasn't going to initially post in this thread, it leads to a he-said, she-said situation with mud slinging and accusations on both sides which doesn't allow 3rd parties to get an unbiased view.

Hloni wanted something from me, payment was made.

Due to various reasons out of my hands (read: 2 new jobs starting at ridiculous hours + personal issues), I couldn't post the stuff off to him on time. I now see that my explanations were seen as "excuses".

Be that as it may, I will admit that I am partially in the wrong for not timeously posting off the parcel and not communicating adequately enough with him.

Sometimes I don't check my emails regularly and if I don't immediately reply to a PM, I forget.

Where I am wrong, I will apologise and take it on the chin.

However, the way Hloni has made it appear - "stolen money" - that I am a thief of some kind, that really wasn't necessary.

A simple phone call or SMS to speak to me directly without relying on email or PM to track your parcel or whatever would have been sufficient before going on a public rampage and being all dramatic about "stolen money".

I have done business with plenty forum members, bought and sold stuff to and from, with absolutely no issues before. I am pretty sure that enough people on here can vouch for me on that part.

I too have had issues with one or two forum members who owed me money or parts for a few months, I communicated directly with them and the matter was safely resolved without "stolen money" threads or the like.

Just for the record, as soon as this thread was posted here yesterday, I immediately PM'ed Hloni to ask him what's he going on about and immediately offered a refund.

Hloni, buddy, send me your account details as I have mentioned in both my PMs and I will immediately transfer your funds back, lest you still see me as a "thief" and other members get the wrong impression

If anyone has any further questions on this whole issue or has any comments, please PM me or email me. Oh hell, post them on this thread if you want to get your kicks or a turn at bashing me or for how I should have ideally handled the situation or whatever

Again, just for the record, all the other members who have posted in this thread and have had similar issues ( 69bug, John Hoffe, van zyl,) - those deals had nothing to do with this here "thief", so there are probably other soured deals that are not worthy enough of getting "stolen money" threads.

Anyway, I have had my say on this. Will be back to work tomorrow morning at 8-5, so will probably only see replies to this thread tomorrow evening.

And I am waiting for Hloni to send me his account details, so once I have those, I can do a transfer for him by latest tomorrow evening when I am in front of a PC again.

Shall I admit and say I am amazed by the response and experiences of various forum member which I’ve been reading over the past 24 hours? Man...oh man. Seems like some of us have been singed a bit!
Thing is, I am not wanting to ‘name and shame’ as I think that it is not in the spirit of the community, most especially since it involves an ACTIVE forum member. It is easy for me to express my dissatisfaction with Goldwagen Pmb – terrible service I get there most times, however I find myself going there time and again because they keep stock of certain items which I cannot afford to wait for calooker to send or for me to go to splitfan’s shop in Midrand to pick-up (living in Pmb isn’t easy).

This forum is about love and passion for our hobby. Some of us wouldn’t be as enthusiastic had it not been for this community :drunks:

Bugspray, I find it rather intriguing that you ‘heard/read’ that I was getting a refund. At no point did I request for a refund or mention the ‘perp’, so I am uncertain of your source. Perhaps you intercepted some communication which I am not aware of :puterwork:

Blitz, you are correct, I am not wanting to start a ‘he said, she said situation’ either which is why I respond to this thread in this manner. The person who I have had dealings with, I have communicated with and am awaiting upon them to do as discussed in the PM, of which I think it might be a tad immature of me to discuss the content of that PM on this platform (as suggested by many - it is a matter between 2 parties, and unless all the avenues have been explored, then a 3rd party should be involved). The intention of this thread – for the record – was for me to get guidance from other forum members – of which we do see that views differ and I, as an adult, will come to my own conclusion about what action to take.

I will not stop trading on this forum nor will I stop contributing in whatever manner I can. I’ve learned tons on this forum, and neglecting it now might mean that Ol’ Betty would end up dusty and on bricks as sometimes I too am tempted to go and purchase a car with 8 air-bags!!!!!

Have you ever sat down at a bar when the bar maid puts down a bowl of mixed nuts infront of you,and wandered,....why dont people inter-mingle like mixed nuts do,in perfect harmony,no territorial disputes,...this stupid cashuw took my place next to the peanut, between the raisin and the pretzel. Personaly I think you two,Blits and Hloni should go to a nudie bar and watch the pretty ladies take thier kit off,and once the boobs start bouncing see how long the "stolen money" problem lasts....resolution in seconds. :flash:

God, lifes too short for this kind of crap.

I bought something off a forum member that I never got, but I knew they hit hard times, lost job, had family stress and the last thing they needed was shit from me too! I would have loved the item as it would have reminded me of the great times I had in SA and of the people on this forum that I personally had the pleasure to met face to face as it was special to this forum but lifes too short! I know it's not theft, its circumstance and we should all grow up a little!
