My name is Wally. I used to work for several VW dealers before and is now in the truck business.
I am renting a house from a friend of mine and there is an old Beatle standing in the back yard.
I have managed to start it and get it going, but the body is in bad shape. This prompted me to start a project: I want to build a kit car usining the mechanicals and ditching the body. Some years ago there were several companies that produced kit bodies. I am looking for a Porche 718 RSK Spyder kit. If anyone knows where I can find one, please assist.

Thought I would introduce myself, seeing as I am a newbie to the forum. My name is Adriaan, I reside in Nelspruit, and I am a certified airhead, something I am proud of. I love all aircooled VW's, I got the bug even before I had a bug of my own, and it bit me hard, as with most folks I guess, once that love affair starts, well, its for life. Its not always smooth sailing owning a classic aircooled VW, but thats part of the fun, you live and you learn, and you have to sacrifice a little here and there. I own a black 73' Beetle, 1600 single port, which I have customised a little, Im always busy with it, either tinkering or cleaning, more cleaning actually, black cars are a pain to keep clean! I recently bought a Haynes manual for my car, a worthwhile purchase no doubt, Im really keen to learn even more about the ins and outs of beetles and getting my hands dirty in the process. Ive also been thinking about starting a beetle club here in Nelspruit, coz I have noticed an increase in the number of bugs running around, and Ive always wanted to belong to a car club, a group of like minded people just enjoying each others company and cruising about, what could be better?

well i have have a 1972 beetle and i LOVE IT, its currantly under construction due to my motor breaking a few weeks ago so ja busy putting in a 1600 golf motor ....everything else it pretty much done paint work, interior looking forward to learning alot from you guys.

...greetings to one and all, My name is Dave and I live in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I have been working on a 1971 Karmann Ghia for the last few months, for my wife and daughter. I took them to an autocross, and they wanted to get involved with that. So we set off looking for a suitable weapon to autocross. I am really tired of the present day rice-bowls and chopsticks running in autocrosses today. I am working on creating a aircooled invasion. I can't wait for them to shake from fear at the exhaust note of the Ghia, while waiting to stage. I am building a normally aspirated 2.0 litre, Type IV for it.
A few months prior to acquiring the Ghia, my son acquired a Type III fastback. I have had to touch everything, in everyway on his car, and it appears the Ghia requires the same level of attention.
I retired a few months ago, and this is a wonderfull replacement. I lived in the high desert in California some twenty years ago and was into VWs then, as well. At that time, I had a '67 Type III Squareback, a '66 Type I Bug, and a VW powered semi-enclosed tubed framed desert racer.
My oldest son, lives in San Diego, has had the "BUG" for the last twenty years. He owns a Type III Notch, a lowered crew bus, and a Type III fastback.
(I guess one could say that we have the East and West Coasts covered in so far as owning almost every type of VW, except for a Type 34). I now have spread the disease to my other son and daughter...and possibly my grandson, for he too, has worked on the Type III...
I will attach photos of my struggles on my next post.
I have found that despite all things, VW people have more in common than just the cars, and that commonality bridges across generations, language and distance.
