Pro's of using your ACVW daily

Post by JohnHoffe »

I've been using Craffie as my daily driver (without the kids and the grass) in and around JHB this past month and it got me thinking.....
196.JPG
...what's the advantages of using your ACVW daily?

Listed below is a couple of mine, feel free to add your own:
1. I can test the reliability of the vehicle. So far Craffie has only let me down once this past month, close to my house with a broken fuel pump.
2. Every trip I undertake, somewhere on the road, I get a hoot, thumbs up, etc.
3. People stop next to me at the traffic light, roll down their window, and share their VW stories with me.
4. I get smiles from cute women. (That never happens to me!!)
5. Beggars and hawkers at traffic lights walk right past my window.
6. I am a lot more relaxed in traffic driving a slow car.
7. Almost every company where I stop the guys will come out and have a chat with me.
8. Petrol attendands are a lot more friendly.

Overall, it is a great experience. I will be doing it a lot more in future.

*you are def "cooler as ekke"
*people don't get angry when you get stuck on the freeway- they expect it.

I use my bus as much as possible,

its a great drive,
I always smile when im driving it,
Im alot more relaxed when I drive it
When I get behind the wheel I know work is over
Cute girls do smile and wave....
If I get a little to tanked at a party I can crash in the back.
All I have to do is slap in some petrol, buy food and booze and I can go live comfortably anywhere for a weekend

Hi John Hoffe,
Your No 5 reminds me of the old days when money was used for feeding the family, not on car.
Had a old VW Passat SW Auto, which Upset me daily. The auto box you see.
Went to scrap yard to find a Manual Box, to replace the auto.
When I got there, i found a Audi 80 GSL, no bumpers, no trim, Large hail damage on the body, had to get ride of the birds as they used it as a comunity birdbath. This had a manual gearbox.
The man said that as the car looked so bad, I could get it for the price of the box, DONE.
Ready to tow it back, I tested it 1st, by jump starting it with petrol in the carb, It ran like a charm. Drove it home, found it better then the passat, and duly, "put" it back on the road, as is.
This car was great when you stop at the robot the beggers slip money into the window, the big JHB Limo's, make way for you on the N1 as they only see "NO Insurance" speeding up the them. I HAD THE ROAD TO MYSELF
This was fun.....

Retro, you rock man!

The annoying thing though is cops harasing you wanting something wrong to issue a ticket on.

My '74 is my daily, just love how someone has a story, how "cheap on petrol" beetle is as they used to fill the tank for R20.

Well I have been using my splitty as my daily driver for close on a year now 20 000 miles. She let me down once with a screw that came lose on the knuckle that joins the gearbox and the connecting rod. Had a spare in my tool box and fixed that in 5 minutes. Yes I was waiting for that to happen. But for the rest she runs perfectly. And even done a couple of rough road adventures as well.

I agree with John

1. Everyone comes and have a look.
2. They get in the car a great conversation stater where ever you go.
3. Kids smile laugh at the bus
4. The daily peace signs that I get from passers by.
5. She can only do 110km\h so you are going nowhere slowly.
6. You get to hear that motor every time you go for a drive.
7. And there is always enough space for everything that you want to take along.
8. And she does not stand somewhere rusting to bits.

And yes I take the bus to work every day :D

110km/h  just be carefull,The stock bus was only designed to do that speed for brief periods of time (the shift line is at 105km/h),like when over taking cyclists, stationary cars and trucks, horse drawn carts, that bird flying just this side of the yellow line and the like. You are definately prematurely aging the engine and gearbox's. (if its stock.)

At the moment, all I get is stares of disgust, well, I am still busy restoring my old rat bus, so once it is painted I think the above will apply :D Mine can easily do 140, but thats thanks to my Gti motor, but anything above 100 feels a bit too fast for me in the bus.

Don't worry I only take Flossie up to 90. She normally runs between 80-90. I enjoy the ride
