What is a nice colour scheme for a variant fastback

Post by MELLO YELLOW »

Hi
A friend has a fastbak variant that he wants me to spray but does not know what clour would suit it.
He was thinking about a black roof and silver body and his wife wants black roof with cream body.
i have tried to get an idea by using the Type 3 selecta but it does not work out to well and I cannot save the sketches to a mem stick

Any ideas that I can throw at him would be a great help

The Fastback looks good in any colour as long as it is a strong colour.
Lightcolours, such as white, cream, pastels do not work. Try Black roof,(as both want a black roof) with deep bold colours, blue, red, green, ect.
Sorry ... just thinking a loude.....

Go to google, and type in "VW Fastback images" look at all the colours and pick one ...

or use the snipping tool in windows 7, or the prt scr button on just about any keyboard to take a snapshot of the selecta you created, then paste it in a program like paint, and save it from there as a .jpg file to go show your clients :-)

Regarding colours. I agree, strong colours look good, black, red, dark blue, but that Pastel (ex-Rueben) fasty Stuart has also looks great! Personally I am not a fan of a different roof colours, but to each his own. You can also do a SAMBA image search for type 3's, and have a ball. There are thousands of pics, all colours.

Go dark brown with light interior for old-school-is-cool look :hangloose:

Thanks for all your input I have noted all and will discuss with my friend
I googled the fastback as was suggested and found a few that I like, there is one with a red top (not roof only) but halfway down and cream on the lower half, the seats of my friends car are going to be covered in a cream material. I would do that colour if I were doing it for me.
Tony Z i also like the colour that you posted :hangloose:

What's a variant fastback?

Sounds like a real opportunity for two-toning: make the Variant one colour and the Fastback another.

So
"We" have finally decided on tbe colour for the fasty :D
It will be "Mica Black" on the top half of the car in Basecoat similar to the Pearl range of paint but not as difficult to apply,
It also has the effect that depending on the angle you are looking at it you get different tints of green, blue purple :hangloose:

The bottom half of the car will be Sparkle Silver also in basecoat :D

We start to strip hopefully this Saterday, I have taken some pics of the 2 cars that are going to be used to make one so if there is anyone that will post the pics for me I will be greatfull.

There may be some parts for sale or to swop.

Till later

Thanks Blitz for posting the pics
As mentioned the 2 cars will be used to make one.
The black one is the better one but the pan is very bad so he will be using the blue ones pan :?
The blue body is also rusted at the back inside by the hatch for the engine bay
