And you never showed this to me Paul??? Even after all my comments about looking for VWSA colour brochures.

Yes, Reuben, that's a VWSA colour brochure. It should give some insight into colurs for other models as well, since many colours were offered across all models.

Interesting that it also shows the two-tone paint schemes. I had suspected that two-tone type3s were dealer options, but that confirms they were factory options. I haven't seen an original two-tone type3 since the 1990s.

Oops sorry Fig, I received it as a gift from a friend fairly recently, I knew you would be "keen" to see it and was looking forward to showing it to you, I would have posted it at some stage on the forum - completely forgot about it - thanks Reuben :D

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Interesting indeed...

Did anyone recently have contact with John Lemon, (the VW historian) ? Or is he only concerned about the citygolf's history?

Maybe someone can research and write a book about Uitenhage's Aircooled history. The different colours and when they were available. Which parts were locally manufactured for which models, by whom, and where. Like the seats, some drum brakes, wiring looms, steel rims, etc. The Autovilla- any details or pictures of the chassis as supplied by VW to Jurgens, before the caravan body was added...

Differences between local and German models. Especially the finer details. Like the SA 66 beetle that still used the earlier small licence plate light assembly, when the wide type was used on the flat pre-67 engine lid in Germany. The sliding windows on late baywindows that first appeared in SA around end 1973 (for 74 year), and seen much later in the US. Also the rumour that a handfull of late 57 ovals got later non-w decklids. (Did the ckd kits get "deurmekaar" there? Or just a rumour?

Differences like 5 bolt drum brakes, SP beetles, curved screen Super beetles, Jeans beetles, elephant's feet rear light spacers, etc, are common knowledge. It's the finer details that are little known.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).

Spoke to John Lemon late last year and he has not a positive clue on colour codes, only some guesswork :(

Jolas can you please, please scan those for us, if you don't mind? Variant (adriaan) and I would be very interested in the VWSA names of those colours as we were using the German and US names for the SA spec colours, would be interesting to see what VW called them...

Sure, will make a plan. The brochure has found a new home at Fig's "library". I'll give it to him when he fetches his Westy some time this year. Are you close to his place ?
