Yeah, I must get the wiring redone as I am sick and tired of charging the battery every week because theire is a drain somewhere on the wiring, and everybody that had the bus before me modified something in the harnass and as a result I cant make head or tails whats going on there, and fuel guage doesnt work. How much more or less did he charge you to redo your wiring flatfourfan?

Yup, I like the way that Dirk does wiring, different colours, not 1 roll of 100m red does all........I got mine done on mates rates as we go back about 20 odd years. But normal price for a beetle is about R1500-00. For a bus it'll be a tad more because of the length of certain cables.......worth every cent.

Actually, my brother's partner in business and long time friend is also big buds with Dirk, and he once helped me back in the day when I still had my Karmann Ghia, which I am still sad that I sold it ! If I am not mistaken he used to work for telkom bacn then. At that price, he can sommer start tomorrow, and I will gladly pay that and even more, as I know redoing wiring is a BIG time-consuming job !

Parts finally arrived, got them and took em straight to Tony at Volksworx.

Also had to figure out the master cylinder. Bought a dual master from
Volkspares, and then today I got an old mk1 reservoir that actually fits the MC. Just needed some smaller grommets to make it fit snug.

Just gotta get some gear oil and might get our Bus next week.

That's the original factory spec for gear oil. There's some debate about GL5 in old transmissions with brass synchro rings, but Bugger (quoting higher authrities) says GL5 does no harm and is far superior.

Ah I thought the original spec was SAE90. But I suppose Multigrade can inly be a good thing.

You may be correct. But I don't think you can get monograde gear oil in SA any more, so 80W90 is the appropriate replacement.

So our bus finally got finished, new Dual Master cylinder, al new wheel cylinders, new brake shoes and some new lines. Very happy with the work.

We managed to drive it to sandton, its new home, from Town even though the license disc on it expired in 2005. Risky I know. But we had to get it home.

So now the work really starts. It drives suprisingly well, but obviously we want to replace all the steering bushings etc and any worn running gear parts to improve that.

Also...what engine would you say this is??

I have never laughed so much or had as much fun driving a car as I did driving the Splitty home last Friday She drives surprisingly well, when you get used to the gearbox, clutch and accelerator as well as the spongy as all hell brakes Even had two offers to buy her on the way...

Anyway, here she is parked outside my place for the time being, the first of lots and lots of work to commence this weekend...

I don't think that that colour is original, but neither is the red and white as there is another blue below the red and white, but it looks more pastel in colour as opposed to the navy blue of the engine bay...

Is it called dove blue? bacause I have never seen a dove in that colour I thought it was called baby blue, or sky blue, maybe someone can help us out on the name of that blue.
