Saw this on the samba forum. A dude was cleaning his pedals to refurbish.
He used this stuff:

Not too sure on finding that stuff over here.

But I've often used oven cleaner to clean my engine and associated parts. Works a charm.

Tad bit expensive though as a can costs around R50.

To speed the process, if possible, warm the parts to about 50 degrees Celsius (heat gun, oven etc)

This allows the oven cleaner to eat into the grunge better.

Wash with warm water afterwards.

i did a trial run with Cobra Zeb. Stuff works very well. I only had it on for a few hours )said leave it over night).
I just wanted to see if it works. Gonna get another can tomorrow, stick one of them in the oven to heat up and try again. So far, so good. will post pics when they are super clean and then painted (forgot to take pics of them in their current state). I could actually paint them now. The rusty bits are gone, but wanna get the lip covered properly.

You are not thinking of heating the can before using it, as what you wrote above sure comes out that way

I thought exactly the same! Also giving it a go tonight with my dad's project (Studebaker Commander). He's got some 53 year old rust and grease on parts that need cleaning...
