If this guy and Pine meets up we might have a resource library big enough to start a global aircooled revolution cause I think Pine has the rest of the stuff Mr Lemon hasn't got in his shoe box

Hi All

John has not yet joined, but he did provide a bit of history for us:
His reply 2 me.

"Hi Louis, thanks for the responses you sent and NO I don't drive a "lemon" Beetle it drives me !

Just one correction about me. I never worked for VWSA but have somehow almost always been connected with them in one way or another. I really got involved however in 2000 when I sent corrections through for an article on VWSA's history which appeared in a local motoring magazine. The article was full of mistakes. Anyway from then on I became, as one person puts it, "part time" Historical Advisor to VW and the AutoPavilion. VW approached me when the AutoPavilion was planned and asked me to write the history of VWSA (or SAMAD as it was first known as) as well as histories and specifications for all the cars on display.

I have been a VW fanatic since I had my first ride in a Beetle when I was 11 years old. The Beetle or bug bit badly and my enthusiasm for this great car just goes on and on --- actually it doesn't deserve to be called a "car" as it is so much more and should not be lumped under the same banner with what are called "cars" today.

So there you have a bit of my "history"

Regards

John

I hope we don't have to wait as long for him to join the site as I have for his book on the history of the Beetle in SA, which he was researching in the 1980s.

I'm really hoping he has some SA colour brochures in his collection! :hangloose:

Hi Fig

My sentiments exactly.
He sure did answer my question RE:1600SP colour code & name.
He also has very few info on SA colour brochures, but probably the most we will find.
See his response to me re: colour codes
"Hi Louis, got back home on Monday night and have just checked through the paint codes I have (which are virtually nil). In a few instances I have a code and no colour and in others the colour but no matching code.

The red used on the SP was "Calypso Coral Red" but I don't have a code for it"

Okay, John just phoned me and I helped him to register on this site, so now it's up to the administrators to process his registration.
VWSA has asked him to take over the archive (144 boxes of information in storage).
From colour codes, wiring diagrams, the WORX!!!

Here's John's 1956 Oval:

He will introduce himself as soon as he is registered.

This is truly great news for all of us!

THIS IS REALLY GOOD NEWS!!!

Welcome John!

Colour codes for 50's to late 70's models are what many of us are interested for a start, as they were different from German models.

Glad to hear that there are more than one box of info that survived!
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).

This e-mail received on Saturday 15/09/2012 at 10h35am from John Lemon:

Once I recieve his phone call, I will help him navigate around the site....

"Hi Louis, I really owe everyone a big apology for not getting onto the forum.

I have tried a few times but eventually found that my user name was not john.lemon but john_lemon. That still did not help particularly as I had great difficulty navigating the forum site. When it comes to that sort of thing I just can't get bye it seems !!.

I will give you a ring early next week or so so we can catch up

Regards

John"

Dear Eben

John Lemon is having difficulty to get onto this forum. Can you please help him?
Please see his mail to me today:
I have had a lot of problems with e-mail and internet --- Telkom says it is rain damage from the floods we had here. Seems to have settled down now.

I am still having difficulty in getting onto the forum --- now it is my password that seems to be the problem. I have so many passwords for various situations maybe I am putting in the wrong one but I thought it was (*^%(&%^(%($(*%%%?

I want to get onto the forum because I am busy compiling paint codes and descriptions for SA Beetles as the overseas colours and codes are mostly different. So far I have 26 different colours mostly with numbers, over the years 1953 to 1978. That is only one colour a year !!! OK there were many years with overlapping colours so I suppose it is not as bad as it looks

What I need is for anybody who has a type number and description of the original paint for their car if they could let me know so I can add it to my list. As I am still having problems with the forum could you maybe post this request for me ?

Thanks and regards

John

Eben can you perhaps send him a new username & password to his email?

This would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Louis

As John is in my neck of the woods, I did tell him I would go to his place and walk him through it.

Think he lost my number, ask him to phone me and we can make a date to meet at his place and get him up and running.
Will be no problem at all, only with pleasure..... :D
