Hehehe well if i'd klap this ouke i'd probably kill him taking into account that i am a big mother ^^ 6'7" and 110 kg plus i do martial arts .... so won't be a good thing if i'd klap him .

Bah! Martial arts, schmartial farts. Klapping efficiency is about awareness, speed and putting the energy where it does the most damage. I'm coming to Cape Town later this year so we'll have to meet so I can demonstrate... wait. 6'7" at 110kg is big... damnit where'd I put my time machine

But seriaasly considering the work done to the poor bug, as you have described it, plus the fact that the guy sold this contraption to a bloody giant knowing it was not right! All I can say is that he must have for brains, or he's is currently far, far away.

WHOOOHOOO i think my luck is about to change to my mind i just scored a huge bargain . Got someone's number and went to see the guy he had "some" beetle spares ......

Turns out he has 2 X beetle bodies , one is a baja bug with sun roof,other is a 75 pre SP , 4 X gearboxes , 5 starters , 1 X altenator , 4 X genies , 4 X 1600 subs ( one with kombi 2 l pistons ) one complete engine with fan shroud and altenator , 2 sets of chrome baja mags , 4 or 5 sets of beetle bucket seats and rear seats , 3X shroud and tins , 2 SP beetle complete steering colums , fenders , carbs , dizzy's , clutch and flywheels , about 6 sets of twinport heads and a lot of lights , indicators and a lot of odds and sodds ...... best part i am buying everything for R12 000 .

Don't think i should not buy this ? Well will keep everyone posted and maybe have some spares to sell for who ever wants some ..... as they say watch this spot for more pics and specials comming to a forum close to you )

Your story is quite amazing. I can't help to remember the voice of the presenter at the end of the muscle car program on Ignition TV, "...and remember, don't crush them, restore them..." You surely saved this beetle from a certain death. As the Ausies says...Good on you mate.

I had a similar experience where I did not listen to my inner voice. I had a 1971 Beetle with a 2300 Type IV engine with all the bells and whistles...on my way to the car show in Potchefstroom I got up early the morning and went to pull out the Beelte from the garage into which I have parked it the previous evening. It did not want to start at all. I later had my one friend there which built the engine and he concluded it was the condenser that died. The car show was on a public holiday and I lived in a small town called Stilfontein...so no shops open. After 2 hours of phoning around I got a new condenser and fitted it to the car. It finally came to life and I did attend the show. On my way back from the show (which was about 50km away from home) the throttle cable snapped and I opened the carb linkage of the two double barrel Solexes with a makeshift plan to get home. On my way home it overheted and I killed the motor and drained half of my main bearings with the oil. To make a long story short...I killed that engine by not listening to my inner voice. Damn hindsight has got good vision.

Hiya guys .

Yeah i know long time no post but have been busy so haven't had time to get to the ol injured bug ;( Well last 2 weekends had some time and started working on her again to get her up and running , will post some pics later . Got the motor in yesterday and fired her up , ........ damn and she is missfiring @!! But as that was 7 pm last night couldn't figure out why . Had a chance to look this morning and bloody hell , looks like piston 3 's heli coil came loose so the plug is not making proper earth therefore missfiring so i have to pull the bloody engine again !!!!

Wonder if anyone has used heli coil locktight ? i am going to try that and stick the helicoil back if possible .

Then another thing have any of you guys made a modification to extend and bend the oil filler resevoir next to the altenator ? I am tired of missing the bloody hole when filling with oil so i'm gonna make a modification to extend and make the oil filler tube 90deg straight up and ending next to the altenator .

I have found that a 500ml or 1l plastic coke bottle does the trick. I decant oil into these smaller bottles as l can't understand how filling stations get away with selling pints of oil at such inflated price!
So when on the road, l simple crack cap off, insert in filler hole, do what l need to do, and by the time the fuel attendant finishes, the bottle is lekker empty.

I'm about to start titavating/redoing/fixing up Bug and am waiting on a delivery of stuff for the grand fix-up
Only problem is during the time I have had waiting for all my stuff I have started to find all sorts of funnies the PO and his "mechanic" sorted out to keep her going and to get the RWC !!!!????
I think that once I pull the motor I could duplicate a fair bit of your sad story
Oh well here's to hoping !

I saw that pic on The Samba.
The PO of that bug used to use it as his daily driver to work and back.
Just shows you how tough a vw aircooled motor is

It seems he has used wire for some or other reason to attach the engine to the body. What was this person thinking

OMG guys i found such a great tool while surfing the web !!! Don't know how many of you know the series of dvd's that was made called bug me . http://www.bugmevideo.com . Well as most know i am working on this little beetle of ours and the wireing is a absolute dissaster . Well i found this bugme dvd 9 the total explanation of a beetle's wire harnass from scratch . It shows step by step what goes where and why , from a 62 beetle right up to a 79 beetle .

Now at long last i know why i am so bloody confused this poor beetle of ours must have such a identity crisis it has parts of a 63 , 69 and 73 beetle's wire harnass all over . But looking at this dvd i now can rewire the whole beetle and use the fusebox the way it is supposed to . I am so excited i can jump up and down . So yeah the 3 days it took me to download this dvd is sure as hell worth it . Will keep you all posted

Hi Guys .

Well what a fantastic beetle working weekend , the first time since april i had a FULL weekend to just work on the little beetle and boy oh boy did i have fun !! Well i want to ask you guys a HUGE favour . Would the fundi's here please look at the diagram i am using and modified . Check if you can see faults . I added a tacho , oil pressure and volt meter to it , also my radio . Then i wired in a relay circuit for my starter , faset fuel pump and spot lights . Check if it is connected on the right places and tell me if i should put fuses on my (30) line to my relays and if so what amps to use ? As i go along i am taking pictures and will post that too , maybe it could serve as a guideline for nayone else who is gonna do the same to his beetle as i did , and if that could help him what a pleasure , as i love the sharing of info on this forum .
