Sweet Pea gets a mate

Post by Warwick-Lowlight »

After being at the whales and wheels and havin a burning desire to have a beetle
Managed to stumble into this hidding in a shed here in Grabouw
History - she was purchased for a school fundraser
Hippiefied with the flowers
Driven for a few school events and then spent seven years in a dusty old shed
Farm worker was slowly paying her off
So I managed to offer the owner 4000 and gave the oke 500 for his effort of paying her off
All happy
Will post more on operation Lilly as we progress
At the start all seems good little surface rust will be easy to sort
Engine swings into life with the flick of the ignition
Need to sort out a few minor electrics - horn shorting out somewhere

So for those of you that were wondering The project Liilly is still ON
Had a weeee issue getting her thru roadworthy but after a bit of welding on some pannels on the pan we are now legal and on the road Yey
So what does one do after you are legal
Well get off the road
So Lilly is on blocks engine out
One gearbox bracket broken and sorting out some leaks
Seems like # 3 is passing a bit of oil in the exhaust
So for now we will sllep on that till I get more moet

End play seems fine so I am hopeing just a couple of rings but we will see what the doctor says
Has been a bit pre-occupied with the beeg move so lets hope in a better state next week

For now while engine out have done some paint on all the tin
NS7 heat paint aparently all that will be left after a burn out will be the paint Ha Ja Ha
Will post some pics
When we sort out the other issues I think I will call the engine the black beauty
:hangloose: :hangloose: :hangloose: :hangloose:
So for now keep the air COOL

Post a bit later
