Scanned from an old newspaper I found at Piston Ring today, the Beetle of Ian Miller & John Buttress at the finish of the 1970 Molyslip SAM 400 Rally, Transvaal South Africa. The first stage was from Pretoria to Groblersdal, the second from Groblersdal to Nylstroom, and the last from Nylstroom back to Pretoria. The TZ registration plate was for the town of Stilfontein. Is that a Chev Impala in the background?

Looks like a Chev. What is the contraption attached to the offside front wheel of the Beetle ?

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Dam suggested a tyre pressure monitor yesterday at PR, but I'd also say it is a rally odo/speedo?
