Rant: Cheap shi* chinese parts

Post by Blitzkrieg »

Please share your personal experiences and frustrations with cheap rubbish replacement ACVW parts here.

1. Type 3 lenses - bought some orange indicator lenses for my fastback a few months ago. Fitted them on the car then, 6 months down the line they have faded and cracked. Replaced them with goodish Hellas

2. EMPI front headlight trims. Bought 2 of these, not even 3 months down the line and rust started showing through. Knocked out the dings from some OG german ones, had them primered and painted. German ones appear thicker too...madness

3. 009 distributor. Had one which was machined poorly from manufacture, was much lighter than a normal decent brazilian one. Traced an elusive oil leak to the shaft which was a bit of a loose fit in the engine, so the oil seal had no real job.

4. Empi plug wires. Went through 2 sets on a friend's Beetle, had a strange misfire at times, quality was noticeably poorer than the local plug wires. Changed to a set of Bougi cords and had no further issues.

5. Empi wiring harness. Almost bought one, but after seeing how many wires had copper strands poking through the plastic insulation, decided to stay away. Compared to original german wires and they are much thinner! Funny how so many Chinese cars have warranty claims due to wiring issues, must be all made in the same factory or something

To be honest, you do get some good chinese parts too, have some pistons which are all even and equal with some good casting, but in my personal experience, have found the majority to be cheap replacements which don't have the same lifespan as original...

They only import cats, Dogs and rhino horn these days - shame they with the small little dingelongs need all the help they can find to get it up !

and seahorse, they import due to the fact that their market consumes a 150million of these anually (and they cannot keep them alive in farms until maturity)

I've also had some bad experiences with some of the EMPI parts lately... cromoly head studs breaking etc... makes you fn mad.

Have you ever tried to drill out a bottom cyl head stud with the engine still in place and without disassembling the motor??? Let me tell you it surely tests your patience. I had to make tools in order to do it.
