Early form of CW crank, old school crank, heavy, unreliable, oiling problems, repairs are almost impossible, prone to twisting, they require special main bearings to run as they have no oil passages to oil the big ends, the bearing and rod are 1 piece items attached permanently to the crank, rods can't be split, the big end bearing looks similar to what you will find on the front stub axle of your beetle. Oiling of the big ends is done solely by the oil flung around in the crankcase.
Very good door stop or boat anchor.

For what it's worth, ignorance has no limits ......

You wont believe how many people ask me if i've got a roller crank in my bug....
The roller cranks had huge problems with oiling and did not last.
New generation cranks with white metal bearings is 500% better then the old rollers. And they can handle some good rpm's.
