Great publicity for ACVW in CT

2011 was a great year for ACVW in CT. More and more people are getting into the scene.
There is a great age range aswell showing the ACVW are loved by all.

The ACC summer meet made it to the front page of the local "Tygerburger" newspaper and was also mentioned as no. 30 in the top 61 trends for 2012 in "House and Leisure" magazine.
2012 looks to be a great year for ACVW in CT

I can"t agree more. I was there for the summer meet and had a blast. 55 acvw in convoy is pretty damn cool. Also saw some very scarce and special cars while I was down there on my visit and met some great people, that are there for the right reasons. Juan de Goede from AirCooledCulture has sure woken Cape Town up.Great job to all that was involved. Cant wait for my next visit.

When last did you put a run together Blitz? Just do it. Pretty sure Juan didn't have 55 cars on his first event either. Takes time.
Be warned though, it's a ton of work (and then some) to get something like this off the ground, and sustain it.

Kudos to Juan and everyone involved for the effort - this shows it is worth it in the end!

I've answered this before when someone asked me why I don't put an indoor show together.

I'm a relative newcomer to this scene, don't have the pull or influence to host a run.

There are others and clubs etc who have the necessary influence to get things done within the scene.

I'll just hide in the corner and pass remarks when it comes to this...

I don't want to take anything away from Juan de Goede (we have yet to meet, I think), but this post (maybe unintentionally) suggests that there wasn't a ACVW scene before AirCooledCulture. This is not true. What Juan has seemed to do this time, and great kudo's to him for doing it, is he managed to get the groups together.

Phenominal Bugs has been going for years, the bus scene, although not run as a club, has been busy for years, and the bus people have been very good to Gill and I. The Wildbuggers has been going since 1987, if not earlier, they did the first Worcester Wheels Show for example back in 2005 or so. The Wildbuggers, now known as Beach Buggy Club SA, have been doing monthly get togethers since their formation, I was a member there back in 1995. Even the ACVWSA forum crowd has been doing socials for quite some years now. Barry's done his Metal Meets and Grand Slam their Technical Days, not to mention Flat 4 Racing with their Open Days. I am sure there are clubs or groups not mentioned here because I don't even know about them.

There's a lot going on in Cape Town for the Air Cooled VW people, and has been for many years, and long may it continue through the well appreciated efforts of Juan, and all the others, organisers and participants.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings Ron&Gill . I am from Pretoria and thought we were talking about the Summer meet . There has always been a ACVW scene all over SA . All I can say is that Juan has made an effort to kickstart something bigger and you guys should be happy for that . Sure Grand slam and Flatfourracing were there and envolved in the event too and if there were any others I would love to mention them alwell. Smile and be happy it's a positive thing. Build on the future not the past.

Hey, no, there are no hurt feelings and I like (of course) what is happening in Cape Town. I wish I was home more often to participate. I did take part in the beach front meet the year before and it was very cool. I also enjoyed the pics of this year. And moreover, I think it is great that visitors from up north take time out of their holiday schedules to support our events. It's all good.

I just wanted to spread some history around. I see often that maybe the Jhb crowd or the Durban guys complain about bad turnout or a lack of events, and sometimes they compare it to Cape Town. What I wanted to show is that there are many players in Cape Town that organise events, and the scene is quite well established already from many years in the making.

When starting a scene, it takes a lot of time and effort, stamina and bad turnouts to get where Cape Town is. And sometimes folks treat their own scenes or areas unfairly by complaining when there is actually a lekker crowd and they do do things together.

It's a great scene and I love taking part and contributing whenever I can.

May I add that what Juan has done, is by chance. But what he has done is get the younger crowd into ACVWs. It is cool but the sceptic in me says that it is a trend and will most probably die down.

I am seeing lots of younger people driving around in them and they are all young. Guys with beards. Into the trendy bands. Girlfriends dress the same. It is like when hot rods and muscle cars got huge, but people can easily afford an ACVW so it is a lifestyle thing that suits them.

I am always sceptical when it comes to trends and I am not too comfortable with ACVWs being the 'big thing' right now. And knowing the kinds of people that join in, will like something else later.

I am not slating Juan and his buddies, they seem genuinely into it and I don't want to take anything away from him. I did want to contribute and offer my services to polish up their brand, but I was turned down. Seems what they got is working, and it definitely is the scene, and not the design.

I just hope this doesn't effect prices because I am finding it expensive as it is.

Easier to get a beetle or bus than it is to get a mustang or a hot rod. That is what I meant there. The prices part, people catching on that it is a scene and then suppliers and private sellers go nuts with prices because of local attention, rather than figuring out that there are people wanting to buy from overseas.

Hey, I could be wrong. Just voicing my concerns.
Basically I do not trust guys that wear cut off tight skinny jeans, black rimmed glasses, stripped tight tips that have deep V cuts, a beard and a hat last scene in "Oliver" … otherwise known as hipsters.

The 'big thing' part, the second a beetle with white walls and inserts with eye lids features on the cover of Speed and Sound is an indication of a 'big thing'. Know what I mean?
