The Bek Prinsloo article must have been in SAHR? - not in Garage

Agreed Sarel. The point is do you want to throw the baby out with the bath water, or could we develop a local rag that can survive commercially AND still be something that diehard petrolheads can stomach?
I sure hope so, because I have thrown close to half a bar at making it happen to date....talk about disposing of income :lol: :lol: :lol:
CVould have built a couple of cutting edge (for SA) cars with the same time & effort!!

As far as my understanding is, Sarel, you ARE a Hot Rodder!
A hot rod isn't only about '32 Fords on a Z'ed frame with a Chevy big-block V8. A hot rod is taking a car, modifying it to go faster using parts from whatever is available, or building your own. That is what hot rodding is. In a broader, and I am talking a REALLY HUGE MASSIVE VERY TOLERABLE broader sense, ricers are hot rods too. But that is lumping all forms of guitar driven music under the 'rock' label. There are many sub genres as well as sub genres in rodding.
Some are so defined that the broader public sees a '32 Ford on a Z'ed frame with a Chevy big-block V8 as a hot rod and only that. I dunno if I am making sense.

Huge respect to you Barry for stepping up and putting money into something like this :hangloose:

I would have imagined that in a perfect world, car clubs would have been the ones producing literature as they have access to cars and the scene. But the club story is another controversial topic for another time. :wink:

What I like about Garage is that there is no snobbish attitude - everyone in the scene is catered for. I mean so far you guys have had a nice spread of cars and features - from million rand Mustangs to under R30k VW's - that really is a huge positive.

All too often you get magazines who only ever feature the shiny big-buck stuff, cars which the common modder can't really relate to.

However with the way that you guys have set the magazine out, it gives hope for enthusiasts who can aspire to their projects being featured in the mag someday, in a nice glossy spread with a babe if they are really lucky :mrgreen:

On that note, that is my only criticism. The ladies used are a little fake with their vintage clothing etc. But one doesn't buy that mag for the babes, so I'm pretty sure that we can live with it.

Besides that, you guys have done a stirling job on producing something which has a lot of potential.

At the end of the day - (and this something which some people simply don't get and turn up their noses if people don't fit in their little cliques) - we are all united by the simple love of cars.

It can be aircooled VW, watercooled Vw, American Muscle, electric cars (only kidding, those are for fags), whatever - we enthusiasts are all bound by the simple philosophy of Built Not Bought.

We are those sickos who wrench in our garage 'til the early hours, lie under our cars, hunt for those rarel bits and pieces to make a car special.

We are totally obsessed for our love of cars, we have this 2nd religion of which much time is spent at the altar of stance, speed and appearance.

We sacrifice hours, paycheques, relationships and sleep...

All this just for some epic happiness and euphoria.

Barry, hang in there buddy. You have the support of us enthusiasts... :D
