JunkMail 'car for sale' fraudster
Greetings,
Just a heads-up warning for those looking for a vehicle on JunkMail. Beware of a guy who calls himself 'Peter', using 0742317550 as his contact number. He is a con-man of note, who makes like he has a car for sale, but "there's someone coming to look at it this afternoon", and talks you into paying a deposit 'to keep the car for you'. Sounds very pleasant, and helpful over the phone, but the vehicle doesn't exist. He claims the vehicle can be viewed in Sparrow Drive, Magaliessig, which exists, but the residents at the 2 different house numbers have no idea about this.
I doubt whether he has stopped using the number since he still answers on that number, and has the audacity to send 'mocking' sms's to remind you that he 'took you for a ride'. As far as we can determine, he actually lives in the DBN area.
Please do not make our R1k mistake. NEVER send money to anyone advertising on Junkmail/Gumtree without having met with the person, and seen the item in question, irrespective of how desperate you are. If you can, try and get the person to send the vehicle's registration documents, in the interim, so that you can 'start the registration process', and then use that info to check if the vehicle is actually legit. Unfortunately, good consumer tools, like junkmail, or Gumtree are now being corrupted by 'tools', like this 'Peter' character.
PS: Peter - I hope that R1k bought you enough doobie to turn your brain into a pretzel...

Damn Soutie, that sucks!
Sorry to hear about your loss.
I deal in the shady world of car advertising almost daily. There are many scams out there. The best is: view the goods, check the papers, pay the money and take the goods. No electronic deposits, no money for petrol to get to you, nothing.
I even had a woman trying to convince me to pat R5k into the Checkers Money Transfer System so she could come and show me the car, all the way from Pietersburg. The next day when I phoned from another number, she was in Bloemfontein. Always where you are not!
When you sell: make sure the money is available in the bank for you to withdraw. Do not trust "proof of payments" etc.

Guys, even people on the forum sometimes don't keep to agreements. Timone bought a bus from Duppermuis (Darrell Strydom)
the condition being that he sorts the papers. A short story - still waiting for papers and /or him to collect and refund for the bus.

JunkMail 'car for sale' fraudster
Is there a particular car / picture this idiot is using to "lure" people desperate enough to put a deposit on it?

Re: JunkMail 'car for sale' fraudster
funny how this thread shows up when i make a thread about advice for selling mine! Murphys Law
Let me just say that I am not the fraudster! I am asking advice on selling mine, no way I would know how to fraud something I dont know.

Re: JunkMail 'car for sale' fraudster
Not implying that people selling vehicles are fraudsters, just that irrespective of who people deal with just take the precautionary steps to avoid problems. I was not saying Duppermuis was a fraudster, just that the agreement was not honoured as agreed. Huge difference. We took the precaution and took posession of the bus before payment was made so we were covered for what we paid for, so we can recoup the amount in the value of the spares. (just a heads up to other forum members)
By defending your position as not being a fraudster implies that you have been accused of such. This was never my intension.

Or is he? Can we really trust someone who is named after a food stuff? Im just saying,If I saw an advert about car parts for sale from a guy called T-bone,I wouldnt go and meet him without backup, because he sounds like a dodgy character.
