Rock and Roll

Post by Warwick-Lowlight »

Greetings all
Have an original rock and roll bed settup that I am copying
Have a sheet metal guy bending up the brackets and the latch that goes inside the bracket also the back support
Seems these are the key working parts so having them copied
The rest is a mix of 3 and 5mm flat
Just wondering if any need to make some more as the jig is made for all the important bends
Will put up some pics when I get the parts and put them together
Will also then be able to put a price on the settup

Cost R1880.00
Seems like wanting to have it exactly the same as an original comes with a price tag
High cost for the bends as the one support has a double bend to make space for the locking latch
This has to be the same as it forms the basis of the rock and roll
Let me know if yous are still interested
Will pick up parts later this week and take some pics

Thanks for the info Warwick-lowlight :hangloose: . I gather that that is solely for the bending and stock required. How does any welding or spray-painitng factor in? It's a lot to ask I know, but any indication of entire cost for everything including shipping?

That will cover the mechanism -labour paint and all

The box and bed bits for own account
I have a 3/4 bed that I can get some measurements for the box that the mech. goes on

All still needed will be some marineply or similar - high dense foam and a cover

I am not sure about the ship costs

My buget for the whole lot is 3500- 4000

Count me out. I am sure I can design something that works fine for half that price. But thanks anyway.

Thanks Warwick-Lowlight. I envisaged a total of more or less that. My concern is with the shipping. If more people are interested I'm sure the shipping costs can be brought down. Else, it's going to add a chunk to the price. Pictures would certainly aid in giving an idea of what to expect too. In your own time :D

Always a good thing to support local initiatives, never mind the cheapskates, pretty sure that you will have a small band of people who'll buy :hangloose:

I take that as a direct attack on me! You don't know me or my circumstances. Just because I can not afford to pay that price, does not mean I am a cheapskate like you put it. Hate being badged because I don't have lots of cash to throw around. It doesn't mean I am less of an aircooled fan.

WTF????????? How is that a direct attack on you?????

I was speaking in general terms and this had NOTHING to do with you or your personal circumstances...

Touchy much?

Some pics

Main bend is shown standing up needs the recess for the spring loaded hinge for when you want to fold the bed away back to bench
There are other ways of doing this but thanks to Sean with the real deal I have copied it exactly so the end result will be as close to the original as possible

Waiting to get the 8mm and 5 mm flat bar to complete the picture
An engeneering mate ows me a favour so will use his shop to make the rivots as all the joints need to be hidden to make the whole lot move easier

Between harvesting apples and a few chickens hopefully some more pics as we progress next week
