Milly - My Beetle

Post by airhead »

Hi Guys.

I have been meaning to post pictures of my pride and joy for a while now.
Well better late than never. Her name is Milly.

I bought her about 4 years ago and have enjoyed every minute of having her in my life.

She looked pretty much the same since the day I bought her. I added the parcel tray. And did the normal maintenance stuff.
Changed a fuel line that cracked near the petrol tank. Replace my master cylinder that gave up the ghost. But other than that she runs like a clock - touch wood.....

She is a 1600 70's beetle. Not sure the exact year. I think its a 74 but I could be wrong.

Plans for this year........... I'm bought a set of Sprintstar wheels for her a while ago. But I need to get them refurbed.
Thinking of painting the "sides" white. To do the two tone thing.
Perhaps fitting disk breaks on the front.
And once the sprintstars are on dropping the front a little...

Well enough talk. Here are some pics.

That is a beautiful bug. Personally I wouldn't mess with the paint job. It looks perfect.

that bug looks super neat! Very cool to see one that neat and that good. Now why would you do a two-tone job? You will get bored of it very quickly. Leave the paint as is, my 2c too.

Your wheels look super! But would look nice with sprintars, but won't make it look any better because it looks so good now.
But I agree with you, drop the front a bit, just close that gap and you are all set with a sick ride.

Disc brakes is always a good thing, but are your brakes kak at the moment?

Thanks for all the kind words guys.......

I'm also not 100% sure about the "two tone" paint job. Some days I think it will look cool, and other days I'm not so sure. I suppose I shouldn't mess with it if I'm not certain.

I saw the lego valve caps on the vwclub forum. It's very easy to do. Just cut out the inside of a lego block with a Stanley knife and then glue the standard black plastic vlave cap into the block using a hot glue gun.

I was thinking of getting my current wheels widened to the same width as the sprintstars when I get them re-furbed. That way I can swap between the original wheels and the Sprintstars from time to time. As both sets of wheels are 15".

As for the breaks. My breaks are actually fine at the moment. Perhaps I should stick with drums???

Disc brakes are always a good thing. Added braking power in the modern world.
So, that is up to you.

I would leave your current wheels at the width they are at, so it gives your bug 2 completely different looks when you change wheels.
Also, my opinion, widened front wheels dont look so great, widened rear wheels are cool.

Forget the 2-tone. paint looks great as it is.

Agree, lower back and front and leave the steels on

Nice car !

Why not do the two tone in vinyl first and then if you don't like it after a while then you can take it off.

If you get the colours right the two tone works well. Very chuffed with mine.
