Cost of restoration

Post by Loopy »

Came across this while searching for something completely different... Thought it might be of interest as I think that most of us will have had, or is having the same experience.

Not aircooled, but local. Might be three years old, but very interesting to see the costs incurred on a very well done restoration. The guy kept tabs on nearly everything did and bought.

In short, restoration of a 1973 Datsun 1600 SSS, start date = 13 May 2008 completion date = 20 April 2009 and a near complete breakdown of the cost of this rebuild was R 115 033.59.

The thing is, that most guys do not keep record of the cost of a restoration.

But when you tally up the cost, you find that our cars are sold to cheap in this country, as no one knows the true cost of restoration.

The guy that thinks he can make money from this is living in a dream world.

What would you pay for an original quality Fastback, ............

Well mine has cost over R80 000 till this point, and still needing more. to get it to the way I want it......

Why do I do it, well 1st off I am Mad, 2nd this is a car I can leave to my kids that will last yet another 50 or 80 years, then it will be worth a fortune....... and 3 rd, I love it.....

I never keep tabs, reason is if my wife ever finds out what I actually spend and what I tell her, the outcome would have me sleeping with the dogs.

I dread the day I die and my wife sells my stuff for what I said I paid!
