Re: Beetle type 4 turbo project - aka Kalashnikov
I have had a look at the Garrett calculator.... but somehow I'm doing something wrong. It does not seem to work.

Re: Beetle type 4 turbo project - aka Kalashnikov
it took me a while to get it to work too. it usually throws it toys out the cot if you make the mistake (too little power) or wrong fuel ratio...
what rpm range and power are you hoping for, I'll see if I can plug it in and see what it throws back

Re: Beetle type 4 turbo project - aka Kalashnikov
shit, that took a while to get to work. 400hp, 5440rpm, 6560rpm, VE=0.85, air to air with 1psi drop, eff = 0.8, 12.8psi atmos, 29degC (just in case you want to plug it in to see for yourself - changing VE made it work).
At 6560rpm, 401hp, 16.25psi boost, PR=2.35, intake manifold temp = 125F, airflow = 41.5lb/min, 321Nm torque
At 5440rpm, 325hp, 16.25psi boost, PR=2.35, intake manifold temp = 125F, airflow = 34.4lb/min, 321Nm torque
They recommend: GT2871R(1), GT2871R(3), GT3071R(1), GT3071R(2), GT3076R, GTX3071R, GT3782, GT3776
I would say any of the last 4 would be in your ballpark ( GT3076R, GTX3071R, GT3782, GT3776)

I see the GT3076R did come up in the list
. The GTX just flows a little better.

Re: Beetle type 4 turbo project - aka Kalashnikov
So, I'm still looking at the various turbos available. The more I look into it, the more I think the GTX3076r with a .82 exhaust housing is the one to go for. It's capable of flowing over 500hp and should come in real soon.
Some more home work to come before I actually go out and buy it.
R10k for a turbo then it needs to be perfect.

Re: Beetle type 4 turbo project - aka Kalashnikov
I've been talking to Walter from the Netherlands. Some of you might have seen his car on the shoptalkforums...

He has first hand experience with type 4 turbo engines, this is his suggestion.

I must say the borg warner turbo does look amazing, but there is no local backup for these, so I will have to bring it in myself.

Re: Beetle type 4 turbo project - aka Kalashnikov
Walter is a good guy and has done some crazy stuff with his T4 bug.
I had a look at the Bogwarner site. Interesting, but I think their turbos are more up to seriously high boost.
For the info you have me above, have a look at the S200 (S256) turbo, puts you right in the 74% range at all times.
