Dyno-charts

Post by Wentzel »

Does anyone have dyno charts of their VW's? I can't wait to get my Beetle finished up and on a dyno to see what it looks like and was wondering if any one have charts and would be willing to post them? Any charts - standard with mods etc. I would also like to see what a std beetle's chart looks like. Maybe some of the guys with conversions and T4 engines?

Here are the factory charts for TP and SP 1600 engines. Note that the scale is different on the torque charts, which is a little deceptive.

1600 single port:

1600 twin port:

These two charts explode the myth that twin ports make more power while single ports make more torque. The graphs show that the twin port makes more power and more torque at every point on the rev range, and the TP has a flatter torque curve.

Since I started it I thought I would add one of mine.

This was in 2004 with different cam TCS20, Rajay Turbo (No intercooler yet) and Old basic EFI they couldn't map it so we just did the dyno run. I lost a lot of torque from the previous setup but gained a couple of KW's.
The previous time was in 2001 I think :?: still with Dellorto's regrind cam 041 heads and the rest basically the same. She had 240N & 83KW both @ around 5000.

You still beat me without a turbo Tony.

No one else got any charts? It would be nice to see what to expect with which changes.

Thanks for the info. I thought it would be nice to give everyone an idea of what to expect with which changes. Even small changes like exhaust and carbs. I remember with SP exhaust and twin 34ICH carbs I had 40kW @ 4400 rpm and 101Nm @ 3250 at the wheels.

I wrote a huge long article about what some engine builders did at a workshop in the states as they modified the same engine, bit by bit and run it on the dyno, and then I compared it to my learning curve on the beach buggy. Let me see if I can dig it up and post it here...
