Re: Theft Prevention
I've been looking at alarm/imob systems.
Anyone have one fitted recently that is well hidden and well installed in a Beetle?
So tired of the hack jobs that stick out like a sore thumb for a thief to see!

Re: Theft Prevention
I got one that is hidden. Has stopped a few would-be thieves and the immobilizer works so well that when giving the car to a mechanic for a day they cant even get it started even with the remote.
Worth every cent, but many people say its too expensive.

Re: Theft Prevention
I had a solenoid fitted but took it out because it didn't work. the fuel has to be under pressure for the solenoid to seal properly, and the gravity feed didn't cut it. Not sure there are other options other than mechanical for fuel cutoff

Re: Theft Prevention
Fk, I think I'll have to do this as a project when I get home.
Insurance companies want an approved immobilizer system. Your best bet would be to have an approved dealer fit something like that.
Otherwise, I can make up a small system that cuts power to the starter or to the dizzy (or both if you wish) as I have the parts at home for a setup like that. Then you have a home brewed system. I cant remember what the parts cost. If you definitely keen, I'll get my act together when I get home in June (end) and make something up to sell to you guys in kit form.
Let me know

Junior, in an accident you will lose not only your life, but your limbs too!!
Tony, kit form sounds cool. For the insurance guys, go to local security installer, let them instal their system so you get a certificate and install the 2nd system too

Re: Theft Prevention
Small aside, month or so ago, they stole a friends Toyota bakkie from behind a locked gate, with immobiliser and safe as pictured above all in place
They suspect the gate was lifted off its rails; bakkie pushed out, down the road, and loaded onto an A- frame or flatbed and off it went....
If they want something bad enough, they'll take it. HOWEVER, having a hidden immobiliser in place certainly helps prevent the opportunistic thief from getting their hands on your ACVW

Re: Theft Prevention
Have seen 6 guys carry a beetle down the road with its wheels off the ground,
If its wanted, it gone.
Just make it unwanted, or un-drivable, as if it will not run, they can not sell it.
