Welcome, please upload pics of the bay....Maki wrote:Hi guys, I am new to the VW world since I always had JAP cars, recently I found a bay I always wanted from a young age brought it down from JHB, for now its standing still as the motor is out I am looking to get it running first then it’s in for a makeover, all seats removed L-Shape couch in, webasto tilt & slide roof and a redo of the entire interior, the body needs some work but it’s fairly straight with minimal rust.
I will upload pics as soon as i can.
any suggestions on a replacement engine i was told a 1600 engine with a big bore kit 90.5mm pistons should be suffice.
Do I go Mahle forged or cast pistons? some shops say cast is fine others say for the price diff you might as well go Mahle forged.
Open to your info and suggestions anytime, I am learning about the bay as time goes on, please do excuse me if I do don’t know exactly what you talking about.

Hi Everyone,
I'm in the UK but I own an EX South African Army 1959 Kombi that was imported to here a few years ago. Just about to finish the restoration. I would love to hear from anyone with pictures of old splitscreens as they were in the army. Mine has been painted now (Not original) but it would be great to see how it would of looked.

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

I've added one as it is now. Have a look at my gallery image. When I get time I'll add some from the restoration but I bought it as an abandoned project so it was just a yellow primer shell when I got it.

Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
Hi there, my name is Marius and I have just acquired a '71 Westfalia. Well, I thought I would buy it and drive it, its been three weeks and now I have a shell with no engine nor interior. I suppose the bug has bitten and I am in the process of restoring it, hopefully I will be driving it (and camping in it) soon enough!

Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
Hi guys, Stephan here, I used to have a 1600 Beetle in 1985 and unfortunately lost it to the side of the road. I then bought a squareback for R900 (without seeing it) sometime after that but when I saw it, I left it there. I've now bought my son a '67 Squareback two weeks ago and I want to restore it vs. he wants to drop, respray and bling it. For now I just want to get the motor running, it's been stationary, one with nature, for the past three years. I've seen some interesting threads on the site and am pleased having found this site. Now to start looking for the (body) parts.

Hi Stephan, Van Den Brink Motors in Kya Sand is worth a visit! They have lots of Squareback bodies in reasonable condition. Certainly the light blue one as one enters the main yard is worth looking at.Stephanus wrote:Hi guys, Stephan here, I used to have a 1600 Beetle in 1985 and unfortunately lost it to the side of the road. Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..

Hey everybody
Didn't do this when I first signed up on ACVW SA, I might as well do it now.
My name is Thabang Kevin Sibeko, Male, 19 years old and my mother gave me her first car which was a Beige 1974 Beetle with a 1600cc AS41 engine. Car isn't running at the moment but I'm about to get it fixed, no worries there. Look forward to chatting with you guys more.
Cheers
