Hi. My name is Bouts Botha.
I owned my first beetle in 1972, it was a 1200 twin rear windows and left hand drive. I still own 3 Beetles, 1960.1965 and 1972.
I am mad about my Beetles !!!

Hello Gents,
I'm fast moving in the VW direction again. Planning to move from SA to Namibia coast. Previously, I owned a wonderfull car VW Passat and also Audi Quatro in the 1990's and VW moving from aircooled engines to water cooled, could not change my wife's mind on the noisy fans, but now am back seriously looking at a an otion to buy or manufacture a beach buggie customised to suit my needs for my street and road running sprints, shopping and fishing expiditions on the West Coast of Southern Africa. Wife, you'll just have to accept - it's aircooled not water, so there's no fan, not even an aircon. Hell guys it's difficult.....
Swakopmund here I come. I previously completed my education in Windhoek and worked there for several years, then became involved in the Mining industyr in S.A.and really look forward in returning to the fresh air and open country, wild life and beaches, buggy runs, fresh wine and fish barby's.
Thanks for opprotunity being part of the VW family. I will be there and listening cerfully
Good Luck and Happy days ahead.

Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
Hi Guys
My Name is Craig & I am in Durban South Africa.I have always loved beetles from the time I was very young.
"34 years old now".....LOL.
I have had a total of about 18 beetles in my life.Gained my knowlege from getting stuck, putting a srewdriver here a bang with the hammer there & were off again kinda thing.
The Car I have @ the moment is a 1964 vw Variant Squareback. If any one can help me with ideas how to set it as a profile pic so you can see it.
I love the site...makes me feel like I am part of a family.
If there is anything you need to know feel free to ask
Thanks
Craig J

Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
Hi Guys,
Tintin here.
Seems like there is a bit of a dub resurgence....
I have 2 type 1's. A 1962 1200 and 1977 1600 Super bug (I refer to them as bubble window bugs - the one with a bulging front window and dashboard).
I bought my '62 in 1986 for a thousand rand. It was my first car and at the time I thought it was a fortune. It was a runner and I used it for a while till the gearbox exploded... Then I rebuilt the car, but I was on a very tight budget so basically just got it running. I used it for another while. Then life happened and I parked the car, and it hasn't really moved since the mid '90's. It's on the to-do list...
I managed to pick up the '77 a few years ago for R8000. It was a runner but very un-road worthy. Still, used it for a while as I intended it to be a project car, going for the Euro-look on it. It was also parked, and in the last 2 months, it's turn has swung round. So first things first is to get the car on the road legally. It's currently on trestles in my garage with it's drums exposed. This last weekend I bought master and slave cylinders to get the brakes done. New rubber brake lines and shocks will also be done. I need to get the motor running properly. The carb is a bit knackered. Hoping it just needs a strip and clean.
Fortunately I have paper work for both my cars. The '62 is rust free !! And the '77 has only surface rust with a few small holes in the door bottoms. The usual.
Once the '77 is done, I'll return to the '62. I intend taking that back to stock, but will keep the 12V conversion !!
I'll post pics of the '77 project soon
