Electroplating, Zinc, Chromate etc
Would anybody be interested in doing something like this? Small quantities like 1KG -10KG on a per KG cost. Most places charge R350 for the first few KG. I can do just 1KG at a time for considerably less if there is interest.

Thats sweet...I had every single nut, bolt, washer, clamp, spring, bracket etc etc etc zinc coated for my 64 project and it cost a small fortune this side.

Re: Electroplating, Zinc, Chromate etc
Good choice to plate em
Zinc plating by itself is nice and looks almost like Stainless Steel.
Now Passivating the Zinc with clear (Blue passivation) or yellow chromate (Irridite or Chromateing) will extend the life of the Zinc tremendously. I will start doing Ally Anodising in the near future. Chrome is way to hazardous for me, so nope no Chrome plating afarid.

Re: Electroplating, Zinc, Chromate etc
A bit o patience, and I will be there. Currently got all the bits for the Zinc and passivation, busy building the drum for plating smnall parts, I guess a week or so and I can start plating, well actually start learning
Currently can only plate mild steel and iron stuff, no Ally or stainless or any cast parts yet. The Ally stuff I am hoping to start doing later this year, or maybe even only next year. Busy buying a Milling machine and then convert it to CNC, also busy buying a TIG AC/DC welder for Ally etc so plenty of things to do and only 2 hands and no duplicate hours
losing out on Beer time here.....
And example of blue and yellow passivation Zinc in the picture. This is what I am busy seting up, 25 liter plating baths, there are 10 of these in total.

One shaft prior to Zinc plating and Chromate passivation, the yellowish one after.

Re: Electroplating, Zinc, Chromate etc
Plant going up

Chemicals

Starting the plant was fun, building the brackets and tops and sorting it all out a lot of work. Pal of mine Thinus helped a lot, thanx mate. Had to have a good laugh last nite as Thinus hates lots of wires (spaghetti) We had to make 2 sets of wires for the Anodes and Cathodes in 2 of the tanks. Thing is I checked to use the correct set for the Zinc plating bath, switched on and adjusted the Rectifier (Power Supply) and it showed correct amps. After about 40 minutes, no plating yet, after we thought we saw some plating starting to happen, we were wrong
After wasting about 2 hours in cleaning another part, that shaft in the above picture, it also did not plate, not even after cranking up the Amps. After some more time wasted, I lifted the part out of the plating solution and the rectifier stull showed it was delivering power, an imposible feat as the circuit was broken. Turned out the rectifier was current limited, the wrong set of wires was plugged in and the Anode and Cathode bars was making a short circuit. The wrong dam set of wires were plugged in
That sucked big time, all my own doing.
Moral of the story, it works if the tank is wired up
