Hi Guys,

What is the max revs for a stock type 1?

For long engine life, you would want to cruise at 3500-3900rpm. For short bursts, 4500rpm is OK.

Type 1 engined buses with governors were restricted to 4500rpm.

However, some volks here will say I'm being too conservative.

so kind of speed would that be?? I've taken one of my old beetles to about 140 - on the clock that is, would'nt know what actual speed was :wink:

At that speed it's whining, so it's enough. ;)

Think how quickly you shift into 4th, and then how far you go on that gear. Quite far indeed. ;)

That all depends on your gearing.

On a 75 Fleetline bus the geared maximum speed is 105km/h. A 1600 Beetle is probably around 120km/h, but I'm just guessing.

You can usually push 130/140 in a stock bug, but you're really starting to stress the tranny.

120kph is more than enough. Now just to get it there in under 10 seconds :twisted:
