Hi. I'm Danie and I recently bought my wife a 1976 Microbus 2000L Executive.

I've posted some pics in the General discussion, and will start a new thread to show the progress of the Bus as we transform it into my wife's vision!

I'll be asking plenty of questions because this is my 1st aircooled VW. I've owned a few Golf's over time.

I also own a 1979 Ford Escort 1600 sport, and a 1979 Ford Escort RS2000

I just bought a 1973 VW Beetle. Car has been standing for +- 5 years.

My aim is to fully restore the beetle to its origenal state.

The right side of the floorpan is totaled so i am looking for a new or used pan in the Pretoria area.

This is my first restoration and hints & tips from the veterans will be helpfull.

Very exited to start the project!! Collecting the car today!

I will upload some pics of the VW tomorrow. Please let me know about a available floorpan!!

I'm new on the forum, I live in Switzerland in Geneva exactly. I own a late 1960 ragtop beetle.

I visited SA few years ago, I surfed my first wave in Muizenberg Cape Town I was really impressed with all the old VW I saw there

This is my beetle when I bought it




and now


I'm trying to fit an airride beam...for the moment it's disassembled....and not rolling.

I'm also looking for a set of rostyle in 15", it seems they are very common in SA. If you own a set that you want to sell PM me.

I am Rudi. Live in gauteng.
And just bought a Cartkraft Beach Buggy that I plan to do over and Enjoy.
Buggy was Built by Kit car center and is Lwb. That is what the papers says.

Will upload pics later at projects. the buggy is stripped now and I cant seem to find the Vin plate anywhere.

I have owned and sold some real good classics in my life and have now decided to own and ... well just keep own owning.

I have been waiting for a 1600 S to come around and picked up a beauty last month - except that it caught fire 500m from collection - and I did not have an extinguisher with me Fortunately we were on our way to Volkspares in any case for a "new" motor and a respray was a definite.

1976 1600 S - Matching numbers, very, very original! Original manuals, invoices, service book!
- 1800 barrels
- Cam, heads and dual twin choke carbs
- Counterbalanced crank
- Smaller doghouse to accomodate dual carbs
- Empi oil cooler
- Oil Filter conversion
- Empi clutch
- Empi front disc brake conversion

What are the glaring things I have missed? I am doing the Empi front disc over the Golf all wheel disc because I want to retain the standard 205x5 Rostyle wheels. I want a sleeper with just a bit of oomph

1967 Variant - Not original at all!!
- It has a Kombi motor (so I am told) of either 1800 or 2000cc persuasion and could have been an EFI motor (are the two tubes from the inlet ports to the top middle of the crancase and indication?). It has never run, and won't run soon by the looks of it! I want to go dual carb as it will allow the lid to close again. Now it has a twin choke mounted on the tubes and it protrudes above the floor.
- It has a sport steering and modern front seats, these will have to go. The steering at least is a non-negotiable. The speedo also does not fit the other instruments.
- The body has a aerosol can spray job with a cut-out behind front number plate for radiator (previous owner was thinking Golf motor), bits of rust on the sills, but very straight with all glass intact. What I am wondering is if there is a good body shop that could close up the rear windows and create a panel van? Not like the panel van VW released where the windows were basically just steel plates, but something that looks like how it should have left the factory - think Chip Foose .... without the budget



So, on the Variant - all comments and advice appreciated!

I am David Watermeyer, a teacher in Korea. I love Beetles and had one way back when. My daughter in Durban is looking for a beetle and I want to get her one, but can only afford about R20000. I know this isn't very informative.
Here in Korea there is also a small but I think growing Beetle loving group.

Dont currently own any aircooled VW's but definately on the look out for another one. My first car was a 1964 Beetle 1200 single port, left had drive with factory sun roof.. Drove the car for a few years before the seats and interior got stolen while at the mechanic, heres some pics of the car before I sold it a few years ago..
