Hi guys. My name is Allan. This is the first time I have ever signed up for any type of forum. Air cooled VW Beetles have always been a passion of mine and thus I am glad that I have come across this forum. My first car out of school back in 94 was a 74 beetle which my father and i rebuild over a period of two years. I drove this vehicle everywhere and it marked my independence. Inevitably I sold it being young and stupid. In 2004 I bought a beach buggy which I ended up restoring over a period of 4 years. Being a married man takes its toll on hobbies. The buggy since my other hobby is fishing. I ended up selling this in 2009 since the buggy just did not capture that beetle magic for me. I decided not to get back into it again but yet here I am. I bought my 3 VW (1975 Beetle) this pass weekend and after getting into my garage I am worried that I bit off more than I can chew. I will post photos shortly and you will see what I mean. I am playing around with a few ideas but I am not sure. You tube has quite a few Rat rod mods that look pretty cool. I will however not chop the roof,I don't believe one should mess with perfection.

I am thinking of putting big tyres at the back and standard ones in front. In other words a rat baja if you want to call it that. Still very unsure about it tough. Being a rat conversion obviously no fenders but will one be able to roadworthy a vehicle without bumpers and fenders. Does any one know?

Hi, I am Charley. We bought a 69 red and white Westfalia in Durban 2 years ago. We had Coastal Classics look it over before we drove it through the Transkei, home to Cape Town. She is a beauty, and the 3 kids, my husband and I have great adventures in her.
However, the time has come to give her a little attention, as she has rust creeping in. so if anyone has any leads on driver and passenger doors, that's where she needs the most attention.

Hi there, after many years without a Beetle we have finally purchased a 1970 1600 that needs quite a bit of attention. The handbrake cables need replacing, the gearbox needs attention, there is one or more oil leaks, the car has an alarm that we need deactivating, simply because we find it a pain. She also needs some rust in the floor under the driver's seat sorted.

Both my wife and I have owned Beetles in the past but have not owned one in many years, so it is great to have one again, just such a pity that she needs so much doing. If anybody can recommend someone to us we would be eternally grateful. I will post photos of her, the Beetle, a little later.

We live in Sunninghill, Johannesburg.

A guy offered to do the work for extra money for us. we are still waiting. I will look on the forum to see if there are mechanics that can do this for us then hopefully we get volksie through roadworthy.
