Hi there, after many years without a Beetle we have finally purchased a 1970 1600 that needs quite a bit of attention. The handbrake cables need replacing, the gearbox needs attention, there is one or more oil leaks, the car has an alarm that we need deactivating, simply because we find it a pain. She also needs some rust in the floor under the driver's seat sorted.

Both my wife and I have owned Beetles in the past but have not owned one in many years, so it is great to have one again, just such a pity that she needs so much doing. If anybody can recommend someone to us we would be eternally grateful. I will post photos of her, the Beetle, a little later.

We live in Sunninghill, Johannesburg.

Another Newbee. Rob Purdon. I have been Beetle mad from my first Dub in 1969. Rebuilt a few and modified a few and ran one on Tarlton many years back. Now just building up a Buggy with a 1300cc motor running on an 1100 gearbox. Raised up the suspension and I want to use it on my fishing runs. I live in Mozambique and my weekends are for jetski fishing and bad roads and 4x4's just cost plenty (so has this build).

Thanks for the great welcome. I must say I have enjoyed the topics that have got me more on the net than I ever wanted to be.

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and VeeDubs. My last VW was a Caddy Pick up when I was 18. I bought a 64 Split Window Kombi yesterday. I am car mad. More into my Muscle cars and V8's but always wanted a Splitty. She is in primer and a project car... have lots of ideas, and need plenty advice. I live in Sharks country...3 finals.... no silverware.

Howzit, congrats on your '64 bus - please post some pics asap - is the interior still original/intact (i.e seats, door cards, roof lining, etc, etc)?

Hi Great site, my day to day name is Margaret, we have bought a 1970 beetle. Been standing for 1 month, although we did drive her back from Nigel where we bought her. We dont have a garage to work on her. She needs a handbrake cable, The 4th gear jumps out when warm. Has to have rust removed under the drivers seat. The alarm removed . A guy offered to do the work for extra money for us. we are still waiting. I will look on the forum to see if there are mechanics that can do this for us then hopefully we get volksie through roadworthy.

Thanks Mr T , we took the car to a garage here. He says we need a total new gearbox, and really the price was hectic. We will try and buy a gearbox ourselves and ger someone to help us put it in. The rust under the drivers seat is a worry. We need someone to repair that. At the moment the licence has expired and we scared to drive her on the roads.
I wa mis yesterday, so want to get in and drive. I was actually thinking putting the car back for sale on gumtree and just wait for another one. We then had second thoughts and WILL get the treasure repairs. Just we retired and have to take things slowly and the best price we can get to repair. We will have to buy a reconditioned gearbox and fit it ourselves. yet the 4th gear is the only gear giving problems

Definitely go see Bugger first. It might be a simple gear lever adjustment.

Hi all, i'm a new member. Always loved beetles, grew up in one. Learned to drive in one, did y drivers lic in one, as a matter of fact all of these things and more happened in the same one. My mother's yellow '74. Which after 30 years is now mine.

Hi all!!

Dave here from St.Francis Bay. I own a beach buggy bakkie that is a kestrel That I think were made in P.E. I've done most of the 'dog' work on it but would like to make the canopy over the front seats into a gullwing for winter driving and ease of getting in and out. I would also like to go a-arm suspension as and when I can afford it. Then a barn door bus..... and a volksrod..........!
