Awesome ... just awesome !
Maybe a dumb question, but wont you have more turbo lag with them long boost pipes?

Re: Beetle type 4 turbo project - aka Kalashnikov
I do not think it will influence the turbo response time.
I have seen corcette v8's in the states with turbos underneith the rear bumper and boost pipes running all the way to the front of the car, through a big intercooler and then to the engine.

Re: Beetle type 4 turbo project - aka Kalashnikov
Not much happened this week, last week ended off with the intake pipe modified to add more space between the inter coolers and throttle body. Next week the work will continue.

Re: Beetle type 4 turbo project - aka Kalashnikov
Hi 4Age, me and my son were just discussing your build, he was asking what would happen to the turbo's if you ever had to race in rainy wheather, with cold water being splashed onto them from the wheels? Would it influence performance or even cause damage being splashed with cold water while theyre very hot?

Re: Beetle type 4 turbo project - aka Kalashnikov
that was a 3x damn.
Water on the turbos won't be a problem. Many normal turbo cars have the turbo hanging low off the engine anyway. I know with the Honda guys, the turbo sits just behind the radiator, so if it rains, it gets direct water on it all the time. DUnno if 4AGE will be running a splash guard of sorts or not.

Re: Beetle type 4 turbo project - aka Kalashnikov
I fiddled a little this morning. The intake system is now kinda done, except for the dump valve and vacuum take offs. Next step on the intake system would be the injector bungs. I have not had patience for the exhaust silencers yet.
I doubt if water on the exhaust housings will be a problem, anyway this car wont be driven in rainy conditions if I can help it . If it does become a problem I can always fab a shield if need be, preferably I would like to keep them open to help with heat displacement.
As for air filter placement.... maybe above the gearbox.

Very nice setup with the twin charge coolers man! What pumps are your going to use to move the water?4agedub wrote:Two charge coolers trial fitted. Boost pipes come in the sides and in the middle out to the intake.
