I had the wonderful opportunity of meeting Domi & Zainab tonight where they are camping with their other South African friends Arno and Elize van der Merwe at Victoria Bay, near George. Herbie looks absolutely amazing - everything still original, and in perfect nick. Not in your wildest dreams would you have believed all the adventures they've been through already. Bestaluck with your travels further, guys, wonderful to meet you! Hope you meet a lot more air cooled friends, and have a safe and blessed journey further through Africa!!
The caravan they tow behind Herbie is called a QEK Jnr, it was made in Eastern Germany before the fall of the Berlin wall, and was orginally designed to be towed behind a Trabant - it weighs only 300kgs!
Spoke to (Oom) Chris van der Heever this afternoon - Domi, Zainab and Herbie are sleeping over at their home in Uitenhage tonight and they are having a fun time with Chris and Sarita (and their collection of around 23 VWs). Hopefully we'll get some pics later
