Are you taking it for police clearance or not? If not, stop worrying about it. You don't need it.piesang wrote:Goed gesê Herman. Ons sal dalk maar met 'n geskiedenis boek in die kar moet rondry.
Ek praat vandag met 'n ou wat die Dotting in die area doen en hy kan my ook nie antwoord nie. Hy gaan uitvind en my laat weet.
Herman, sometimes I worry about you.retrovan wrote:This Data-Dot was not thought through very well, when it came to us restorers of old cars.
As these laws are passed for the general motor industry, where you buy a car, ride a car, sell/ scrap a car, have it crushed and thats the end of its life, before being turned into 3 toasters and a deep freeze.
So unless you want to take the risk of restoring the car fully, and then having it taken away from you as you can not get clearance, You are forced to go for data dot, then police clearance then put it on your name, then restore it.
So what happens to the data dot, well who gives a dam.....If they could not work us into the system, then we will paint over the dots, and they can work it out in a few years from now, when we land up on in a road block, whether we are "Restorers" or "Car Thieves".
Can you imagine the joy, when you take 4 Donner cars, and build up one fully restored car,.......![]()

that will make up a very interesting, road side entertainment display for passing motorists, seeing you manhandled with very little dignity into the back of the Cop van, while you screaming out your innocents, and dialing your lawyer at the same time.![]()
We in for a trying time....
Dots all volks...![]()

Sorry, you asked where.... most private Roadworthy guys do it for you, price is between R200 and R550.
Now !!! dont you think that is a bit strange.... they want you to take a "Possible" stolen car, have it Data-Doted, then take it to Police Clearance, the Cop looks and sees it is data doted, looks at your certificate, and gives you clearance, they do not even check if the data-dot is an old one, maybe stolen ones or twice., but as you have the data dot certificate you are now the legal owner........beetlefanatic wrote:..............

You welcome... I think..![]()
I have to take my Syncro for police clearance of the new engine so the po-po said I need to get it micro dotted.
No, the whole car gets done, they have a prescribed placement instruction, so the cops will know where to find them.MELLO YELLOW wrote:As far as I undersatnd it only the engine is data doted I stand to be corrected
I have to vehicle that still need this done and apparently can only be done at gov license dept at a cost of R550.00 per car
No, the whole car gets done, they have a prescribed placement instruction, so the cops will know where to find them.MELLO YELLOW wrote:As far as I undersatnd it only the engine is data doted I stand to be corrected

The underside gets in all the holes
the doors get through the drain holes
