Good "ol" Country peoples

Well as many of you good peoples know I seem to have the knack of finding vehicles that come with no paper trail

After seeing all the posts on this here great forum re the hassles involved I was slowly starting to panic about the beauts that need my attention

Horrid nightmares of being hauled off to the tjokkie cause I'm framed in a network of stolen goods

Well today I plucked up the courage and went and did some investigation

Joe the Westy and Blu the splitts info all nice and neatly written in my book of projects

Written as that was all the info that I have

Go to the local traffic department and all the ladies behind the counter almost jump from thier side to mine as I walk in
Grabouw Friday 10:30 and there is nobody around ????
Anyhow after a bit of chatter about me and all the projects we get to input all the numbers I have collected
Nada - Zippo -Ziltch - Forkall comes up on the screens

Then the one pipes up that I need to go to the police
Oh No the nightmare is true

So off I go to the cop- shoppe - can hear the sirens in my head

Well turns out our local vehicle inspector is also fond of these old beauties
A little more chat about where they from etc and we then go into the big computer
Seems the police have bigger ones than the traffic peeps

Engine numbers - zippo
Vin numbers - Zippo

Great - the red lights have not started flashing

Mr Inspector then proceeds to tell me that going to Stickland will not help as especially for the splitt there will be many duplicate numbers on that vin number as its only a 6 digit number
We need to get the papers reg first and maybe we will be able to do it all here in Grabouw

well now I am really listening

Mr inspector tells me that he does vehicles on Tues and Thurs so I should give him a call on any of those days and see how busy he is
Because if not to busy I can come fetch him and he will come and have a look at the cars and make sure that the numbers are correct
Then will give an affadavid re the said numbers with my affadavid about how I got them to the local department who will send them off

So glad that I found a guy that knows what the story is
And my local ladies have requested that I kidnap them when the Splitt is going
Gladly kidnap them if they are real helpfull with all the papers and get him on the road

Will keep ya all posted on the visit next week and what transpires thereafter

I'm in the same boat. I did some research and there is a process to register built up vehicles ie vehicles no longer on the system. Here is the link to the process. All the necessary forms are also available for download.

I think you have misunderstood the process here. Did you get the certificate of registration with your name on it?

The seller must take it off his name and declare that he sells the vehicle to you, but its up to the buyer to register it in their name.

If the seller did hand the form in, be prepared for late registration penalties. Best register the vehicle in your name ASAP.

I bought the buggy with RWC but when I received it the RWC was exp. Took it for RW but oilleek had to be fixed and the money was not there to do so the oak I bought it from just sms me that he toked the buggy of his name and on to my name. I then went to the traffic and yes it show on my name but not registered, just need to bring the RWC. When I sold my hilux in March I toked the yellow paper to the traffic and it was immediately of my name on to the buyers mane, so I ask them what is the outstanding moneys on the buggy and then they could not find it on my name

Our system seems to be rather confusing but I understood that the yellow form was for the seller to confirm the sale and have the vehicle ownership removed from against his name. The buyer should hand in other forms as soon as possible after the sale: a blue change-of-ownership form; an original registration form; a valid receipt*; a certified copy of his ID*; a (certified?) copy of the seller's ID*. Not required for registration is a recent certificate of roadworthiness. This last will have to be provided before a clearance certificate disc for the windscreen will be provided.

* Not sure how many, if any, of these last three are still required, the system seems to change depending on who is behind the counter.

I stand open to correction here, this is just how I currently understand the requirements.
