Dyno day results

Post by Wentzel »

Went to a dyno day this past weekend to see what my beetle does now. Results came to 120kw and 240nm on the wheels, I was expecting more according to previous dyno but she feels great and that is what matters. There was a couple of strong cars at the event. Citi golf with just over 300kw, Supra with very close to 400kw using std engine internals or so they say? Some nice sleepers that even I would never suspect. Amazing what power some guys get out of relatively simple engines! Some of these results are with high boost and racing fuel.

Thanks Bratjie, I'm not happy with the mapping yet and sure there is a bit more to squeeze out of it. Next step is methanol injection but still looking for suppliers. Previous dyno showed 144kw but it seemed a lot to me so I think this is more realistic.

Can't wait to see what your waterboxer is going to do!

That is cool as a std Rotary turbo in a Beetle does around 120Kw on the wheel s so you must have alot of fun with the guys

I will start a thread in the next close future with a 2.1 WBX Turbo with wossener pistons etc that I am going to build for a guy in DBN and another one for Dr Watson on the forum

Chiiiirs
Adapterplates Available for Rotary in Beetle and others aswell
And Special Boxes built for Rotary Conversions and Scubies

Nice I didn't realize I'm on the same level as the rotors. Any idea what the modified waterboxers are capable of? Or are you exploring it now?

Hope you are better soon Bratjie I'm also not great this winter is catching a lot of people especially when working on the car in the cold ...

I got two ulcers I'm battling with for two years now, but the work has to go on, anyway this what I'm planning to do next, saw a nice golf 4 grille and planning to mould it into front spoiler with fibreglass

Mocking up but it should be flush with front scoop and then finish it off and respray,

Hi Pierre

I've been meaning to ask what it takes to get 400 or even 250 horses out of those engines. We should really talk a bit when we are at an event again.

Thanks

Well done Wentzel. Proud days!!!

I know a guy in the UK who spun his tyres on the dyno at 472hp using a wasserboxer... He worked for Porsche when he took me for a spin in his car and it was awesome, ok, he "only" had 180kW at the time....

Thanks Tony,

That is really impressive but I'm sure aircooleds with a proper casing etc can do similar?
I'm a bit disappointed as I said but its probably better for my clutch setup :) . I'm sure you know the feeling of playing with the engine and trying to get the best out of it! I'm already thinking about increasing to 2L+ with stroker and matching pistons but I should stop somewhere I guess ... and just enjoy it.

I said that a few weeks ago and now the engine is out again...

Why not enjoy it while you save and collect parts for the stroker?

Also true! But then I will definitely need to upgrade my gearbox before I destroy my still std box. Should make the whole upgrade a long term project, have to start somewhere in that case.
