How about introducing yourselves and saying hi???
Hi,
my name is Bert and reside on the Bluff Durban and would like to thank you for the link to such an awesome site with so much technical info.
I own a Jasper Beach buggy powered with a Nissan 1400 A14 engine which i built in 2000 to meet my kayak fishing requirements.
N/B the vehicle suites the purpose very well being easy to load kayaks on roof racks and after a days fishing just hose the salt deposit off when i get home without having to worry about rust.
The pan is 3mm thick steel with 6mm angle iron surround all hot dipped with all bumpers/ bikini bars / roll cage and roof racks fabricated from 316 stainless steel.

The time spent building this vehicle has been beneficial by the fact that many of the vehicles built by motor companies tend to be horrendously priced but will not exist in years to come whereas the old VW Beetle air cooled running gear and chassis made of a superior quality steel tends to keep on running from generation to generation.

If the old beetle were to be brought back into production at a reasonable price i would purchase one in a heart beat.

My First vehicle was a 1972 VW beetle mustard in colour which i purchased Second hand for R650 in 1977 modified into a Baja and drove for 5 years without a days hassle bar a puncture of left rear tire LOL what a fun pavement hopper and beach runner it was.
Cheers
Bert

Hi there! My name is Heinz and I have been lurking on the forum for a while. We own a 1974 1300 Beetle, which has been in the family for many years. It is still completely original. It has not been in use for nearly 20 years. My eldest son will be going to varsity next year and he is keen to use the Beetle as his varsity car. We have started restoring it and hope to have it back to its original glory by the end of the year. My 1st car was a Beetle (1962, 1200), which I bought from the original owner (a medical doctor in Pretoria) in 1982 for R400. It was in perfect condition. It was my varsity car and I drove it for 4 years before I regrettfully sold it when I received my 1st paycheck, to replace it with a modern car (a vw golf).

We hope to gain a lot of insight from the members on the forum as we progress with our project.

Hi there. I see i've actually never introduced myself. Joined u guys in 06/2012. My name is Ismail from Cape Town.I have a 2 pumas and they have been my very first experience with the a/c culture and they have laid to rest a lot of my misconceptions of beetles. I am still sorting out my Pumas but I see a beetle or bug build in the future as I have 4 kids who will be needing cars. I really have enjoyed the forums so far and the tips and help and stories/projects is amazing.

Coligny from KZN midlands.

Just bought my first aircooled, 16 TP buggy. I'm learning every day, and loving it.

My dream car to build in future, 718 RSK with mid mounted engine. Thanks for all the advice on his site.

Hi Coligny,

Whereabouts in the Midlands?

Crikey! :D Is that still considered the Midlands? :o

We VW enthusiasts seem to be few and far between in this province.

Sort-off on the edge of the midlands, 4 more km, and i would fall into the Tugela valley. We bottle Aquelle mineral water here on the farm, supply Woollies with peppers, and export avo's to the poms.

Hi All,
My name is Emma(username Lady Emz) and I have been bitten by the 'bug'! I recently bought a 1972 Beetle and have fallen head over heals in love with all things Beetle. I live in EL but bought my beetle in Uitenhage and drove her all the way back without so much as even a hickup outta her. I'm keen to meet and go on breakfast runs etc with the beetle group in EL if there is one? Thumbs up to this site and look forward to learning more about these AWESUM cars.

Hi. I am also a newbie here.
I own a 1971 convertible vw beetle 1600. It is not original, it was modified by beetle-in
I have bought 2 other beetles as well. 1975, 16oo twinport for my son. We received a second beetle with the deal, it needs TLC. The engine is complete but the body needs attention. I am not sure about the second one's year model, think it is somewhere in the 1960's it still have the small tail lights
So at this stage we are looking for some tips on restoration
