Is it just me...

Post by Blitzkrieg »

...or is this forum rather quiet over the past year or so?

I was reading some of the posts and threads from years gone by and it seems as if a lot has changed...

These days...not so many people posting, hardly any rides under projects, what's going on here?

Is it just a reflection of the local scene or have people just progressed from the online platform onto something else?

Personally, don't have an ACVW at the moment (although am collecting parts for a killer beetle), but still check up on the forum daily....

Would be a sad day if this site becomes a ghost town...

Thoughts?

I have noticed that. But anytime there is economic ripples, good or bad, the forum gets affected.

I thought the forum has been rather busy lately. Sometimes there is a really slow day or two (like this weekend). Maybe it is because I do not actually read all the threads and I keep seeing unread threads. (I leave out most of the bus related ones and most of the ones that have been replied to regularly by certain members with views I don't always agree with).

I have noticed that some build threads do not receive as many thumbs up and replies as others (thinking that speedster water pumper with some nice work being done to it even if you don't agree with the transplant) and because they do not get talked about as much they sort of dwindle and die (luckily not the case with the speedster thread). I do not post "good work, its looking great" posts as much as I should and nor does most of us. Without encouragement a lot of the work is not shown and the threads sort of die. So maybe it is not the economy, maybe its just us and we need to start taking more interest in good workmanship and offering encouragement (even if it is on a bus or not too our exact specifications but still a nice job).

Just saying

For the projects thread, I think money has a lot to do with it and also people that think what they are doing isn't really worth documenting. However, just because there aren't lots of people building cars, there is still a lot of guys/ girls poking around and looking at other builds.

I'll update my project thread on a Monday morning and will have an extra 100 or so views by noon the same day.

With the digital social networking age we live in, we should be snapping the living snot out of our rides and sharing the good and the bad with everyone else, no matter how small. I can think of at least 10 things that I've done wrong on my car that with a little bit of pointing in the right direction could help someone avoid making the same mistake.

All you guys are correct. Yeah it has dwindled down a bit. Yes I am also guilty as my project thread has not been updated in yonks. But not really much has been done either.

Let's all make a concerted effort and post atleast one new photo or update to our project or show threads???

We have been very quiet because our bits and pieces we have sent out for work have taken sooo long!
Our engine has been away for over 2 and a half months now and we only just got some of the powder coating stuff back. it also took over 2 months.
We have continued to work on stripping the paint off the body but that isn't that exciting and also it has taken hours and hours with very small patches of progress.
We are hoping that the flywheel shims arrive tomorrow. My dad will drop them off at the engineers and hopefully we will have the engine back by the weekend.
If we do, we will post some pics and hopefully also some more after the skate event.

Both dad and I agree though that it has been quiet on the forum and we have been part of the problem.

I still think its due sole to the economy, and not the lack of interest.

Guys are working harder to keep going.

There is less Zar's to go into toys.

Then you have the winter and a bit of depression.... ....

But as old Oom Paul Kruger said...

I'm back :)

I would love a project but this year alone, I've spent R 90k on Mo the bus so that's all the money gone.

Imagine how much a full resto would cost over here if doing the interior and upgrading from brakes to discs whilst also fixing a few other bits has cost so much!

I have realised, here you buy aircooled done not to do, no fun. The car below sold for a third of the cost it took to do!

In my opinion, things come and go in phases, and the cold winter weather doesnt help...

but that said, plenty people in this world will rather complain about how bad things are or are getting, than do something positive to help improve the situation.

I prefer to work in winter. I rebuilt my whole race car(new skin, new panels, engine alignment, suspension mods, made new glass parts for it, sprayed it, assembled it and everything in winter). The heat in summer is a killer, so anybody that uses winter as an excuse is just fooling themselves. Most of the Americans that get snow prefer to upgrade their cars over winter as well so they can enjoy them in summer.

I am in sales - everyone is complaining about the economy and how tough things are, but they are the same ones with R15k car repayments living lives which they can't afford

Funny thing is, that the economy might be down or whatever - yet we've never been busier, so I do agree with your sentiments above....can't sit back and whine about the economy when things are still all going good...even if it requires just a little bit of extra work.
