Have you ever thought about another aircooled hobby to supplement your current VW addiction?
Well I have a simple cost effective solution that is a lot of fun and also addictive.
I recently purchased a few Flying Pigeon bicycles from China and I have motorized one.

Standard Flying Pigeon cost R1300.00 incl VAT excludes delivery.

Install a 49cc or 60cc two stroke engine and you can get 50+ kms p/hour out of this baby. Braking still interesting
Powered Flying Pigeon my total build cost is approx. R 3500.00 Bike & Motor incl VAT excludes delivery.
Just needed to make a small bracket and extend exhaust.

Currently working on a Board Track Racer. This is great fun and another hobby for us aircooled nuts.
I have some new bikes in the box and the engines you buy on line ZA supplied and delivered in 2 days.

Good question and the answer is I'm not 100% sure
Reason being is the companies selling motors locally claim this to be a moped so as long as it's under 50cc with pedals (bike) you only need to be 16 and over no license required. The fact is the 60cc motor is identical and has no markings so you can't tell, and the 60cc gives twice the power of the 49cc and cost difference is R200.00 so no brainer. The reality is the cops on the beat don't know as guys have been stopped and they scratch their head. They are being used as delivery bikes around Germiston and Edenvale due to their low running costs. Again this is a hobby for me and I have no intention of commuting but I do ride on the roads on the weekend no problem. There is even a club run forming so at 2litres per 100kms a cheap breakfast run, albeit slow

Well I was thinking of some of the guys that work for me but I have just realized that they would want to modifiy their existing bicycles. I on the other hand find the Flying Pigeon absolutely charming.
Does it come with the headlamp?
Does the headlamp run off of a dynamo?
Do they only come in Henry Ford black?

I built one for Gill a few years back but the clutch handle broke when it fell over... do you have a new one for me?

Gill pursued it with the police in Hermanus but they did not seem very interested. Gill has a motor bike licence, so that wasn't the issue but the lack of lights, number plates etc...? Eventually the Police and Traffic department just chose to ignore her on her motorized bike, I think the question was too difficult...

The lamps are dynamo driven on the wheel and cost R100
This is all old school technology like turning the clock back 50 years.
Agree that if you have a bike then just buy the engines and do it yourself.
