Wow, nice to see thid thread moving along. I'm stuck in PE at the moment and am looking around here as well. But will only be able to follow up the rest of the leads when I'm home next week.
Any idea on prices on the nourens stuff?
I'd be game for splitting the price on a large roll.

Re: Lets talks square weave carpets
its around r300 m2. u need not buy a full roll, just wat u need. their prices are quite fixed and buying afull roll is a waste. was at builders today and they have a large selection. they also have a Belgotex, rustic and rustique range

Re: Lets talks square weave carpets
I did the same thing in my first Puma and used some house carpet as I could not find the right black carpet. (I am still looking 20 years later lol)
This year I vacumed that same carpet out of the car.It just fell apart. Household carpets have serious disadvantages when used in cars
they are not really UV resistant
they are meant to lay flat and are not easily bent around curves
They dont like damp at all
they come in !@#$k colours

Who cares how it's done in California?

Re: Lets talks square weave carpets
Went to the builders this past weekend, got a sample of the carpet I thought would work.
Colour is close, but the weave "blocks" are too large, so won't look right.
The search continues....

Re: Lets talks square weave carpets
Found a shop in Pretoria North that stocks what I think we're looking for. I'm going to go past tomorrow after work and get a few samples. It's even got a nice flexy heavy duty backing. The guys says that they use it to mainly line the back of couches.karmakoma wrote:Went to the builders this past weekend, got a sample of the carpet I thought would work.

They have it in about 6 shades and to buy enough for the speedster would cost me about R800, plus they can line it for me once I've cut out the shapes.
Will update in the afternoon.

Re: Lets talks square weave carpets
Both suppliers listed by Sarel have some very high quality correct items.
Mcfarland sells their carpet for around $90 a yard, how many yards needed for a beetle then?
Carpet is also a little om the heavy side, I fear shipping cost might be a deal breaker.
Anyone ever brought some/similar in?
What news Flatfourfan?

Re: Lets talks square weave carpets
Well I only had chance to go and see them on Friday and it sure does look the part, but they only had samples of the ones that I was looking for as it's not a big seller. (story of my life).karmakoma wrote:Both suppliers listed by Sarel have some very high quality correct items.

I've placed an order and they sent it through last week, so hopefully I should hear something back in the next few days. I've asked for half of it backed with the normal backing and half with the thinner backing for the bendy parts. Holding thumbs.

Re: Lets talks square weave carpets
No luck on the carpets.............very low grade and a crappy backing that will not last that long in a car.........
