Hi guys,
New member here. Rebuilding a 1965 Kombi.
Bought from Bloem from a panelbeater who said it had not rust.......1 year later its back from the panelbeater who had to replace the floor and other very rusty panels.
The previous owner used a grinder on the hinges to open the rear hatch, so I am on the lookout for the entire assembly.
Will take some pics soon.

Hi to all.
I am not a beetle or vw boffen at all. Just like my ride a lot. A Willys Jeep on a beetle chassis with 1600 twinport. Was looking for the right one. Will post pics. When I got her she was not running and with no wiring and a lot of repairs needed. Got her up to standard doing most myself with the help of the internet and youtube and friends. She past roadworthy and is now all legal. Nice

Hey guys,
I have recently acquired a 1965 Beetle.
I am super excited at the potential this little bug has.
It is currently in the shop being converted from the 6V system to a 12V system as it has been struggling to run for the past 2 weeks, and I have burnt out my second coil already due to being fooled by the first mechanic I got help from.
Please see the attached pics and let me know what you think.

The following are planned to be changed\fixed on the car:
New rubber all round the bug
Interior carpets
Re-Chrome the bumpers
Disc brake conversion
Change the Mags to something that suits my taste

if registered before but didn't have time to really use it.
I'm from George and been into cars all my life. dad did oval track racing for 16 years and did all the work ourselves. before that and still now we always had old cars at home.
between me, my brother and my dad we have the following:
36 Plymouth deluxe, dad
76 fairlane 500, dad, more my brothers now
60 Chevy apache, mine
mk1 2 door ford cortina, brother
66 beetle, almost mine
73 bay window, mine
if been restoring her for the last year and almost ready for paint. did everything from the bottom. new brakes, brake lines etc. previous owner had the motor rebuild as he heat seized it.
had a lot of rust, owner gave a lot of wrong info but drove the 800km to buy it unseen.

Recently met two members of AIRCOOLED VW SA which suggested I join this site, honestly reviewing some of the topics this truly a great site. Thanks guys.
Now the introduction my name is Manuel I am from Pretoria but most of the time I reside in Angola ,I have a passion for cars especially the the 50's and 70's models.
I worked for more than twenty years in the automotive industry and the past five years I am working for a can plant in Angola.
For twenty years or more I had a dream of building my own a speedster replica, for years I made it a point to go to kit car center once a month just to view the speedster. Twenty years later I finally got started with the project, last year I bought a 1977 VW beetle 1600 to be used as a donor Car for my speedster project which I obtained from Universal Products.
I am hoping to share my build experience with you all and seek from time to time some technical advice.

Good Morning ACVWSA, my name is Tristan Viljoen, I am 16,5 years old, still at school in grade 11 in Centurion. My dad (Bossie2004) bought us a 1963 Beetle (which we named Tjoklits) that we are going to build up as my "first drive". I like sport, especially Action Cricket, Hockey & Soccer and also love watching movies and playing Playstation. We also have a Speedster Replica. We are part of the Jacarande Beetle Club.

Hi all, and thanks to jaco for the invite. My name is Dave and am a complete newbie to the vw world. I bought a Baja Bug just over a month ago to use for a trip up to Namibia. Although admittedly not my first choice of vehicle (I was looking for a 4wd), I fell in love with "her" the moment I went to view. It then became a challenge to see if she (and I) could handle the journey. After a thorough going over (new tie-rod ends/ carburettor/ distributor/ coil/ fuel pump, and a bit of re-wiring and a re-threading of the rear half-shaft because the holding nut had stripped the thread, and having done the paperwork, I set off...........
The first day from Johannesburg to Augrabies was the beginning of a series of mechanical glitches that was to dog me in spurts along the intended route. Not a true mechanic but handy with a spanner I would continue to re-set the points until I decided to refit the old Bosch coil nearly at the end of the two weeks I was on the road and my hassles came to an end. Overheating was only a problem when forced to slow down for long periods during severely corrugated stretches of road. Dust in the air-filter meant regular cleanings. I bust a bearing on the rear right and traveled from just past Grunau via Canon Roadhouse (Fish River Canyon) to Keetmanshoop where I got a replacement, pausing every five clicks for 15 minutes to let things cool en route. Then between Sesriem and Kuiseb pass a campervan threw up a stone which caused the old type windscreen to explode, showering glass everywhere - the upside being that I had great air-conditioning all the way to Swakopmund where I got a brand-new, I was told the last one in town, fitted.
Apart from these annoyances I had a great trip - JoBurg-Augrabies-Fish River Canyon-Sossusvlei-Kuiseb-Swakopmund-Spitzkoppe- and back via Okahandja-Windhoek-Keetmanshoop-Fish river canyon again-Nakop-Upington-Witsand-and back. On the last stretch the regulator played up a bit.
I was asked to send in some pics and these are basically the ones used on Gumtree and other sites as I have now grudgingly have to sell her before I return to my job in
London where I've lived for the past twelve years.
The journey was a way to get away and find much needed rest and solitude following a mid-life crisis and heart-bypass surgery earlier last year. I'm chuffed I found and did it all in a volksie - and got through it all with a bit of tinkering, something a modern car with all the computerized gadgetry could not have managed without a tow-truck.
I intend to do it all again soon - the plan was to go all the way to Vic Falls via Etosha-Caprivi- and then maybe Maun-Sowa Pan way, but the tight budget got hammered by the extra costs incurred. I didn't chance the sandy bits too much this time either (digging out at my age seems too much like serious work) but who knows that I may not be tempted again to do it all with another Bug.
