So, I decided I need to refurbish the lights on my car. It doesn't help having the nice mirrors, Interior, and the front and rear lights (bezels) are rusted and stuffed.. And trhe headlights aren't matching, so they need to be replaced. Am placing an order with Sierra Madre in the States for lights all round. Won't break the bank too much, but considering the end result will look 100 times better, it's worth it.
Carpeting.. The Carpet I bought is just too thick.. So going to look for a similar Oatmeal\4 way colour but not as thick, so can at least get it bent rough the edges and glued properly. My intentions are to have the Carpeting all round, with 2 Black rubber Mats on each side for Driver and passenger.
I'll have the rear Tarp Cover done shortly to finish the rear off and close the seat up, make it look neater, and my carb linkage came from Dellorto. So hope to get the twins on and running in a few weeks time. Last to find closeby is a painter to repaint the car.
Still lots to do, but after that, I'll have spent less than expected, and have a fine looking Speedster..

So,
went to check the classics at Killarney on Saturday. To sum it up, I was pretty disappointed. I think Motorsport in general is a dying hobby\sport in South Africa for sure. I realize there's no David Piper and friends, but jeez, could the Gauten Classic Car owners not at least come down here ONCE a year to show off their cars??!! Not one 917 seen ANYWHERE. No P4, just a gang of GT 40's, a pair of Daytona's, Lola T70 Spyder and T70 Mk 3B! Saloons, just as bad.. No Y151 Escort. no Mazda, pretty much equivalent to a lame local weekend..
I grew up in JHB South, in the 60's, and my dad had a pile of Jags, we literally LIVED at Kyalami for the 9 Hours and Wynns 1000's in the 70's and 80's. I used to build most of those in 24th Scale for Slot racing purposes, and having attended a few of the previous Classic revival series, this one was REALLY bad. Sad day really.
Anyway, Sunday, attacked my Carbs again.. Linkage arrived, so out with the old, in with the new linkage and 2nd hand Webers.

One thing that get's to me tho, is how skew this all sits in this car. Due to the Offset Pistons, the Carb mount and Linkage sits at a moer of an angle.

Bugs me a bit, but it's how it is I guess.

Also did my rear tarp with the Tanex fittings.

After eventually working out I needed to close all the vacuum holes, here and there, I did manage to get it to run barely. Chatted with Jesse Hugget, he said I need to fit and bring the car through, then he'll balance and tune them.. Can you believe half way through my attempt to get them to run, I run out of fuel.. So had to dash down to the Manshop, buy a 25 liter Jerrycan, fill it, come home, fill up tank, and tried again, only to drain Battery. AGAIN.. Left it on charge for a few hours, and have the same shit I have previously, where I get all the lights on, but the final twist on the key doesn't do nada.. it's like there's a wire just mysteriously come off somewhere.. This happened the last time I did this, and I managed to "fluke it starting by checking wiring under steering column etc.. I have no idea what causes this, except possibly there's a bad connection on my ignition switch.. Tomorrow night going to try wire the starter\solenoid direct from Batt and see if it swings..
Ideally I'd like to rip out entire wiring and start again, but bloody hell I can't work upside down in the footwell and up behind the dash anymore.. Too overweight and too old, but dammit the previous owner's hacked this loom to shreds.. Will try again tomorrow.
As soon as it's basically more or less running, I'm going to try Blat it down to Jesse at the track and hopefully he get's it all stable and purring how it should.
Also ordered replacement front and rear lights and new Chrome Bezels from the USA.. So lastly now, I need to tie down a sprayjob, then fit all the new bits, and it'll look Awesome.

oooh. No. The manifolds should be slightly skew to compensate for the cylinder offset. Maybe you have them swapped around? my hex bar is exactly perpendicular to the centre line

Allan. You may want to consider putting a lining on across from B-pillar to B-pillar under the edge and also a tie down point in the middle to attach it to the base of the rear seat as that is going to flap around on you.

But, a good thing is the linkage works perfectly, except it's for the lower Manifolds, so I need to extend the Accelerator Arm pieces so it sits lower, and in-front of the Cable exit hole. But I need to solve this lack of starting issue.. Puzzled with this.

my 50c would include checking the battery connections. My spyder would do exactly what yoy are describing. everything would work fine except the starter. I eventually tracked it to a loose connection. Not hanging loose. it was tight, just not tight enough. tightened the crap out of it and it never gave trouble again

Did this. Going to check the Earth etc as well.
Driving me bloody insane as it's not something I can pin-point. It just kind worked. Starter Motor doesn't rely on any wiring on the motor itself to run does it? Coil etc? But I know I haven't changed anything round there.
Might use the stupid horn button on the dash to start the car.

Mmm. I think this is an earthing issue. Isn't there supposed to be a Big Earth Strap from the Gearbox to the Chassis somewhere? I think there's something missing here.. I''ll focus on the electrics here, I'd say it's not making a proper earth circuit on my car.

Glad to say, I believe I have found the culprit, although I don't know if it's the Solenoid or the Starter Motor. Doing a direct short from the Battery Lead on the SOlenoid across to the Copper Bar on the starter reveals some sparks, but nothing else. So I remove the entire thing, and tried in a more easily accessable angle. Still nothing, then a "half a turn or rumble, and then nothing.. So, something's poked somewhere. Going to take it to Shelleys in town tomorrow and will wait to hear their diagnosis.
At least I know it's not the wiring tho..
Install dual carbs, run out of fuel, burn out solenoid.. Radical!!!
