Electric Beetle

Post by sid »

Hi

Not sure if someone has posted this already...an electric Beetle conversion kit. Rather pricey, but an interesting concept if you are a tree hugger like me

Saw a Beach Buggy in the Cape with an electric conversion
Very strange not hearing an exhaust pipe! :?

A friend of mine has acquired a baywindow double cab as the base for an EV conversion. I've told him I'll get excitied about it if he can power it entirely using solar to charge his batteries for all his city driving needs. There are a number of ACVW EV projects detailed on thesamba.com forums, including one guy who is managing to get most of his charging from solar, though that does need a trailer for all the solar panels.

The underlying problem I see for EVs in SA is that, unless you can consistently charge with solar, then you're dependent on eskom for your charging. If Eskom can't even keep the lights on, how are they going to provide power for a significant number of electric cars?
