Pietermaritzburg Cars In The Park (18 MAY) - Beetles wanted!

Post by Merlin »

I've just been tasked, involuntarily, with getting at least ten Beetles to the 'maritzburg CITP, in May (18th)...

So, if you're in KZN, or wouldn't mind a drive to attend a large show, often with interesting exhibits, please express your interest here so that I can prove that I've at least inquired. ;)

Thank you kindly.

Pietermaritzburg

The 2014 CITP is hosted by The Vintage Sports Car
Club of Pietermaritzburg in Association with The
Rotary Club of Pietermaritzburg.

The first CITP, held in February 1976, focussed on
what were considered ‘old cars’. However the show
has evolved to include more modern and even brand
new cars. What is classified as an ‘old car’ is a
rolling date, and to some, even the nineties is 'so last
century'! Nevertheless the emphasis is on showing
‘interesting’ cars.

This year will include cars that were made in about
the same year as their owners became interested in
cars! This will be a tribute to the changing times and
could help educate the younger generations about
the days before air bags, ABS, EDS, Brake Assist,
and collision mitigation. We are often attracted to the
cars that remind us of our youth, so we are hoping
that some of you have bought back the cars that are
about the same age that you are, regardless of your
age! We are hoping to see some Pontiacs,
Mercurys and especially an Arrol Johnson or a
Trojan. If you own a ‘car of your youth’ please bring it
along, and if you feel ‘in the spirit’, dress according to
the times, be it the roaring twenties, Frank Sinatra,
James Dean or Elvis. Also bring along period
accessories such as fascinators, walking sticks,
portable record players, wicker picnic hampers;
whatever reminds you of your youth. There will be
prizes for the best dressed!

Not to ignore technology, we will include any
fabulous exotica not usually seen on the streets of
PMB, like Hotrods and Muscle Cars. Muscle Cars
were plentiful at CITP 2013 and many keen
supporters came to admire some superb
workmanship, and absorb those spine tingling
rumbles. And what would early CITP exhibitors make
of the modern Super Car? Owners of such cars are
welcome to join us as an individuals or as part of a
club. We are looking for McLarens, and a Morgan
(e.g. 2013 three wheeler), Lamborghinis, Porsches,
Maseratis, Ferraris and any others that are available.
These are always popular, regardless of age.

With your support we look forward to a repeat of last
year’s happy and interesting car show.

I'm sure your buggy would be welcomed into the VW circle there. :)

Sounds like a nice event if only it wasn't so far. May be a good opportunity for a convoy from GP side through MP. I would love to see the cars from that side of the world.

lowlight,

How goes it?

You're like the mythical acVW driver around here. Some of us have heard of you, but we never see you. ;)
