Re: Paint Code
If you find a source please let us all know. VWSA has no records.

Paint Code

I have a beetle spec guide book the book's black with no writing on the cover , don't know if they used any of these colors on the bus .
There's a list of colors which tells you the color each model came with .
At the back of the book it has books you should look at including the bus .
. This is on the last page of my beetle spec guide book . Hope this helps .
Does anyone have a transporter spec guide like in my pic , if so the colour chart for the bus should be in there .

Re: Paint Code
The VWSA colour palette was not the same as Germany or other markets. While some colours may have been similar, they were not the same.

Re: Paint Code
This question comes up regularly and no one has ever provided the info. I am very interested in the answers.
The only place I have seen SA colour info was on a SA Type 3 brochure (thanks jolas!). Does anyone have any old SA split or baywindow bus sales brochures with colour info? It seems SA sales brochures are as scarce aas definitive colour info. I've managed to buy more overseas brochures than the local brochures I've seen (none).
I recently met someone who claimed to have obsolete SA paint specs for all manufacturers, but he has yet to provide.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how we can source this info?

Re: Paint Code
As VW has always bought their paint from the local paint manufacturers, I have even asked them to look into their historical data, but with no luck.
Would seam that this type of info was not important to them at the time. Even they have dumped their old records.
Sorry, have also tried.

Light Green over Dark Green
Grey Over Dark Blue

Re: Paint Code
I believe that's correct except I think two-tone paint signified a Microbus, while Kombis were one colour with more rudimentary interiors.
The two-tone combinations you list were the first time VW bus colours in SA were different from German AFAIK. The earlier 59 Microbuses were seagull grey over mango green like the German assembled ones, possibly because all Microbuses were fully imported before 1960.
Kombis were assembled in SA since August 1955 and Microbuses from late 1959.
