I have been reading on the samba, and stumbled across engine codes info
looking at my engine numbers:0562530 (looks to be 1500cc single port)
and 8fad340691 seems to be 1600cc twin port
can anyone confirm if I got it right?
As most of our engines is 30+ years old its best not to work on the engine numbers but rather to take of one head and measure the bore to know what size engine you got
I'M ADDICTED TO BRAKE FLUID, BUT HEY I CAN STOP ANY TIME
From some time in the early 70s, when VWSA started local assembly of engines, all ZA engines got the SF prefix to denote ZA assembled. Apart from the SF prefix, our engine codes/numbers followed the same sequence as German built engines. But Dixon is correct, you can't know displacement until you've measured bore x stroke.

Apparently it's a factory rebuild due to the machining of the case and the third letter 'R'.
