Hi, my name is Alan, I reside in Hibberdene KZN South Coast.
I am 57 years old, but as my cap says - who's old, just a recycled teenager.
I have recently purchased myself a 1600 twin port beech buggy.
I am busy re-doing the wiring. The "builder" of this buggy must have had the name of short wire - a couple of the wires at the rear of the buggy were made up of sections of about 3 inches long soldered together (not the same colours), the rear is completely rewired now.
The "under dash" wires are being sorted out at present. I will submit a befor and after photo soon. I am doing it myself.
"Short wire" also tried his hand at spraypainting but what a laugh. Far too much thinners - if the colour was orange instead of blue I could had called it OUTSPAN. Everything got blue painted - the floor (no mats) - seatbelts (I have replaced) - Pedal cluster with "go-faster" pedals (have refitted original rubber ones) and the wiring loom, wires included.
I still have a lot to do - repaint the body, buggy roof, fit "original beetle style" mirrors, change the head lights (present ones look like massey furgerson tractor lights),
complete the wiring.
Have replaced all 4 shocks, front wheels bearings, distributor, points, plugs, condesor, a "wall to wall" rubber floor mat, crankcase breather pipe to air cleaner, etc.
I suppose I gaot all this work because I paid only R15000 for it.

My name is Marnus.

My love affair with aircooled Volkswagens started many years ago when my dad bought a 76 Bay Window 2lt Kombi in 1978 which was our holiday car. I have many fond memories of this kombi. My brother got a 1600 Beetle when he was in matric in 1986 that we redid the engine and brakes on and I ended up building myself a KCC 718 RSK Porsche Spyder. I got an abandoned project which turned out to be a long wheel base kit that was one of the very first that KCC made. I started building the Spyder in 1996 and registered it on the road in 1999. I still have my beloved Spyder and for a 15 year old car it still looks pretty good. It has an 1835 motor with a lot of go-faster bits like a C35 camshaft, Large valves, high rev valve springs, airflowed heads, blue printed, light flywheel, power pulley, electronic ignition (golf Distributor) with EFI and it is turbo charged (turbo from a 2500 td mazda/ford). I also have disc brakes front and rear.

I am currently helping a colleague and friend of mine to restore his 66 Karmann Ghia. For many years I did not have a proper workshop to do these kinds of projects in but at my current place I built a huge garage with more than enough room to do such projects.

Hi all , im stan the man,

Im from Cape Town , I own a 1974 1600L beetle, a work in progress
would appreciate some advice as im needing to do a few things to get this old lady on the road, a good beetle repairs shop in western cape, busted floor pan....some electrical issue...general tlc ....can anyone recommend a good worshop who does just about everything on bugs ?
