Did that to my 1956 Oval as well, its not as destructive as you may think.

Its done so that that section can be bolted on and off as needed, allowing you to take the engine strait out the back rather then having to take off a lot of parts, and then lifting the body over the engine once its on the floor.

When bolted back, you can not see anything but a very thin line on either side of the engine lid.

Herman I hear what you saying, but taking a beetle engine out is already such an easy process. I think it is more to do with laziness. This guy in the video is only doing it to get attention.

Maybe, you right,

but as I have a 56 body with a 1835 with twin carbs, its a pain taking it out the body,

and is not as easy as you may think.

Im thinking of doing the same on my oval. Jut to make it easier to get the engine in and out.

The guy in the video is a bit of a cowboy.

The thing that most do not know, is that the oval has a more upright gearbox, it has a smaller rubber surround for the engine to fit through, and should you have any non standard parts on the engine, it is near impossible to get it in from the bottom.

Now the last statement also goes for a newer model, should you have twin carbs or such things.

One does not always want to strip the whole engine to get it in or out.

If someone that never owned an aircooled reads this he will definitely think twice before getting one.

Sounds like they only last a week.
