Service time...

Time for a quick service of the buses before the Kamp Out.

What oil are you using with this lovely hot weather we having to keep the AC's happy?

I usually use GTX 20W-50 but keen to see if there are views out there for a better oil to use.
Camping is cheaper than therapy.

Tony suggested 15 or 20W 40. helps to keep engine a little cooler.

I topped up my bus with GTX Diesel 15W40. Ran it today for the first time (I'll update my thread soon) into town and back. 50km in total, brand new pistons, rings and liners - so they are generating much more heat than they will once they have been run in.
Got home, went straight to the engine and held the dipstick. Not hot at all. I held it for 30seconds without even thinking that my hand was getting warm.
So yea Alan - much cooler than your Porsche ;-)

Hi Tony,

Good to hear the Z-Bus is running again, Project thread with details please, We all know you going to Sea, but not good to leave the forum "at sea" about this thread.

Good choice of Oil as well. Not a Castrol Fan myself, but just the same, grade is perfect.

Did the Fugly and Fastback as well for CT trip, and perfect on road test.

What makes it GTX for Diesel different from normal GTX?

Lower viscosity ?

Does it mean it can handle higher tempretures better reducing engine wear

I heard mineral oil is very good for engines that run hotter than regular engines

Yes..

The Diesel oils are formulated not to break down or separate during high heat.

So therefore will not turn to slug at higher temps.

I think GTX's viscosity runs up to W50, not the 40 as per the diesel one.
Also, diesel oils usually have more anti-wear additives.
But for me the selling point was that the Diesel also has a petrol rating, and one that isnt the newer SM or SN which are engine killers for us who modify things...
I think the Diesel is an SJ or SL.
