Re: Lolette Spyder Restorarion
I don't know if it can be done but the caravelle had cv joins didn't they? The box in the lolette is a swing axle so I cant see how it is a bus box. I will have a look when im atvthe car again to be sure and maybe bet a box number for reverence.

Re: Lolette Spyder Restorarion
As far as I could find out the Spyder uses a Karman Ghia windscreen which i don't have yet. What are my options to get one or test fit before I have one made up for a lot of $$? Can someone help with measurement or will a Glass supplier be able to determine if it is the same? From what i heard the made up screens are around R2400.
Where can i attach safety belts in a car like this? will i need a mounting point on the body somewhere or will a lap belt be accepted? I was even thinking of a kind of Roll-bar similar to the Cobra's behind each seat and attach the safety belt to it? I'm concerned in case of a roll over without any roof or protection. What is the accepted way to do it in the Spyders without ruining the look?

Re: Lolette Spyder Restorarion
the car needs to conform to the regulations applicable when it was built. So if it is registered in an era that lap belts were all that was required, then that is all you need.
A roll hoop or cage wont be such a bad idea.

Re: Lolette Spyder Restorarion
R2400 for a made up screen, I think not, R4500 was the starting price I was quoted over a year ago, and they need a sample to work from.
For what it's worth, ignorance has no limits ......

Re: Lolette Spyder Restorarion
Ouch Rui I was hoping to get away with less that R4500!? Unfortunately I guess my options are limited to either that or a second hand screen. It is not something you can DIY or make another plan with.
Does anybody have or know of a second hand screen for a Ghia?

Re: Lolette Spyder Restorarion
I am quite sure that I can help you getting a 2nd hand one. Alternatively Volkspares bring them in for about 3000.

Re: Lolette Spyder Restorarion
Thank you !
I would like to consider all options. I want to get the car roadworthy and regestered before doing the personal touches and body.

Re: Lolette Spyder Restorarion
Take the one from Volksapares for R3000, I was quoted R 5 850.00 excluding delivery in September last year from Hein Steyn

Re: Lolette Spyder Restorarion
As we have seen on overhaulin with the 356 rear screen , any screen with a similar curve can be cut to fit. I have spoken to a glass guy a few years back and he said that it can be done because they are laminated.Finding the right one is obviously the hard part and you would probably need a sample. Normal screens for golfs and toyotas are quite inexpensive(R500 - R700). If the R3k one(my first choice) doesn't pan it could be something to explore.

Re: Lolette Spyder Restorarion
Thank you for the info. I have even thought about plexiglass but not sure how to shape it and how safe it will be. I never thought about cutting a similar screen but definitely worth exploring that option.
Why are the screens so expensive? Supply and demand? Or extortion by the companies that knows customers have limited options?

Re: Lolette Spyder Restorarion
So expensive because of the glass, laminate and sometimes the difficult design of the window.
Prime example of this is my Mazda 6. The 2003 model (which I have) has a "normal" curved windscreen. A replacement cost me in the region of 4K in 2010. From 2004 they changed the shape of the hidden part to now bend from the curve to make a flat that follows the bonnet for a few cm. This one they told me was around 16K because its a PITA to make.
Maybe I am wrong, but thats what PG glass told me

Re: Lolette Spyder Restorarion
I did phone Krugersdorp Glassworks yesterday to check if they can find a KG screen. No luck there.
They can still get Bay screens for R900. Fitting excluded.
